    Question Error 678

For the last few days I'm facing a problem of not connecting to broadband. When I click connect button the message "connecting via PPPEoE" then then after some time it displays the Error 678.
It usually happen during night hours after 10PM and continues till morning. I am using Nokia Semens c2110 modem with LAN card.
I've even tried using USB port but the problem still persists..

Error 678 means that you are not able to connect to the BSNL server that will authenticate you and connect you. Please speak to the BSNL exchange about the problem. I assume that you are not facing the problem during the day.

I do not think that BSNL has the manpower to check on usage of users. Also I do not think that have extensive systems to block users like this - they could totally deactivate the account.

But I know that it is possible to block users during specific hours. Whether BSNL is implementing it, I cannot say.

Arrow I do have the same problem as aktmnr!

    Dear techies,

I do have the problem as that of aktmnr.

I have a BSNL Dataone ADSL 256 kbps unlimited connection to my home PC located at Anthiyur, Erode District, Tamil Nadu. The telephone route length from the telephone exchange to my home is about 6 km. I have this connection from December 2006 ( more than 18 months). Everything was fine till about mid March 2008. I used to get about 250 kbps bandwidth speed and about 32 kbps download speed.

Suddenly, from mid March I could not connect during night hours starting from about 6 pm to morning about 7 am. ADSL light in my modem would start blinking by 6 pm and would not hold. Sometimes it would hold for a minute or two and can connect during this one minute but would last for about one minute only. This problem consistently starts by evening 6 to 6.30 pm, lasts through out the night and get goes by 6 to 6.30 am in the morning.

BSNL broadband team tried their best for the past 3 months even till midnight by changing various modems, and laying new cables but could not set it right. The real problem is they are not able to diagnose the problem. They say it is due to distance from the exchange;I could not agree this as I had a really awesome connection for more than one year before this problem started.

I request you to suggest a solution to this problem.

    Thanks.

ask local exchange people to change your port at local exchange to which your line is connected & try with some other port.

Sir even i have the same problem but this doesn't work for me... I've tried everything from switching on/off the modem enable/disable the LAN changing the wires from the Pole to my system that too thousand times but nothing improved.. the only option left for me was to wait and watch as i dont have the time to go to exchange and talk to BSNL officials.. and finally after 2 days it got rectified by itself.
P.S. Special numbers like 198 , 1500 and number starting from 1800 are not accessible from my Land line phone and I've lodge the complaint several times. BSNL make sures that no one can complaint from the comfort of there home...

In technical term. if you enter your rauter page you will get pppoe down. This occurs generally for the link failure to main server. If any optical fibre work is going on in your area at night. then you will get the same problem of 678. Or there may be a problem with your port at tephone exchange as whitestar said. But due to port failure generally the eror code should be 815, so far i know.

    Default Tried everything

    Dear Friends,

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I had tried every suggestion you have mentioned. Fortunately, the BSNL JTO here is an enthusiastic person and cooperates very well. He tested it with many modems, changed ports, put new under ground cable for about 1 km, tested the line with all the working pairs available and everything one could imagine.

But, the BSNL people here could not identify the real reason for this problem. They asked me to give any suggestion, in turn I am asking you. Please offer your valuable suggestions.

    Thank you.

change mode to G.dmt from ADSL2+.your SNR values should increase by doing this.

Yes that was suggested by one of the BSNL employee to me he said there could be some issues with your system/Firewall but i never checked it coz the problem get rectified by itself on the same day.
But i really doubt that this can solve anything...

    Hi,
I did as you advised; the values improved slightly but there was no improvement in performance. As usual, I was cut off from the network soon after posting the earlier post. There was no connection trough out the night.

Hi, I tried this many times. The local JTO also switched the line to different locations and tried to find out the problem. But nothing solved this. The only thing evident was the problem lies with the telephone line.
