Thread: need help

i am using bsnl home 500 planby bsnl wi-fi modem.
please give me some answer about my questions-

1-can i use net desktop & laptop by wi-fi.
2-which mode of modem is best for me allways on or dialup.
3-can i use my laptop through wi-fi by dialup connetion.
4-when i use my modem in allways on mode and my desktop computer is off & modem's power is on,then my internet connetion use bandwidth.beacause home 500 plan only give me 2.5 gb space for download/upload.

dude since this is my first attempt at ur query why dont u try switching off ur modem i mean i do that that when my laptop is off. after all why do u wanna keep it running in always on mode... save some electricity...!!

my modem is install in my first room & laptop using in 4th room,so i am not walking in 1st & 4th room.

so y not walk? i mean is the rooms far apart?

ya the gap between rooms about 20-25 metres.

big house i must say... therfore i must say just like u have a big house but fortunately my telephone, modem, laptop, printer speakers and what not are all together on one table so makes its easier but in this case bro i really cant help if its not possible for u to shift the modem so therfore the wise ones on this forum who shall appear later should be able to help you better with some outstanding solutions!!

1.Yes you can use. What model type of modem do you have now?
2. For always ON condition, you need to configure the modem in PPPOE mode. It doesnt link anything with the modem type.
3. When you want to connect your desktop and laptop parellely, then you have to go for PPPOE modem mode (i.e. always ON condition). If you want to connect either one at a time, then you can configure your modem in bridge mode (i.e dialup).
4. You will not charged until internet traffic flows through modem. But for safer side, switch off your modem when not in use. Plan to use secured Wifi connection.

please tell me that what is the range of wi-fi in metre(modem se kitne metre ke distance tak laptop wi-fi se oprate ho sakta hai).

It depends upon the antenna and radio signal devices kept in the nearby area, roughly you would get signals upto 100 meters distance. But dont need to bother about walls as they reflect signals effectively.
