Exclamation Help needed with XAVi X8821r+ modem

    Dear friends,

I am from Kerala. I was using Tata Indicom Broadband with the following modem in Tamil Nadu. Now I want to use this modem on BSNL broadband in Kerala. Details are given below... I need to know how to configure my computer, TCP/IP, modem and anything else to use this modem on BSNL Broadband.

I am NOT exposed to computer networking but I can do it well, if I am getting good instructions ! I DON'T have BSNL broadband at the moment but will get it in a few days. I am afraid, BSNL people won't provide any technical assistance with this as I am not using their modem and I may have to install everything myself... Worries ahead !

    Modem Details

On entering IP 192.168.1.1 on my IE, I got login screen and I gave admin as both username and password. I got a page with title "GS8100 Configuration Manager UGI" which has 7 tabs as follows...

Home, LAN, WAN, Bridging, Routing, Services, Admin

The initial screen in on the Home tab which has the following links

Home | System Mode | Quick Configuration

I am now in the system view (initial page) page. Think I must go to the Quick Configuration page now.

    -------------------------

I have manually configured TCP/IP setting of the Local Area Connection of my computer as follows.

    Use the following IP address

    IP Address : 192.168.1.2
    Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway : 192.168.1.1

Use the following DNS server addresses

Preferred DNS server : Blank (I don't know what to fill)

alternate DNS server : Blank (I don't know what to fill)

ipconfig /all command produced the following results.

    ------------------
    Windows IP Configuration

    Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : shivam
    Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
    Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
    IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
    WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Later I tired modifying the TCP/IP setting of Local Area Connection to obtain DNS servers and IP addresses automatically and tried ipconfig/all command. Then I received a somewhat different output. It is given below.

    # NOTE : I modified the original Physical Address for security purpose.

Now, with these information, can you help me to configure my XAVi X8821r+ modem to use on BSNL Broadband at Pathanamthitta District of Kerala State, South India?

The detailed settings on the modem configuration page (http://192.168.1.1/) is too confusing for me. Please be descriptive, if possible.

Thanks a lot for your valuable time.

The most pitiful thing is I am unable to find the method to do this for the model of the modem what I have. So I kindly request you to guide me or atleast inform me where I can find the method tho change the setting.

    Modem Manufacturer : SemIndia
    Modem Model : DNA-A201BE

    THANK YOU

Vista drivers are not available. Connect via LAN cable (RJ45) - no drivers required.

    @essbebe

Thanks for your response but could not solve my problem.

I'm able to configure X8821r for my BSNL and am able to connect sucessfully but when reboot my PC I'm not able to connect again, all the modem settings are same but I dont get the point why I;m not able to connect.
I'll have to restore my modem to default factory settings and then again configure it with BSNL settings and use the Broadband and again when I reboot I'll have to do all this stuff all over again to use my BB conncetion.

Can you tell me how to stablise my modem with BSNL settings so that I can connect to Internet without any problem even after rebooting my PC

I'm able to configure X8821r for my BSNL
    select reboot from last configuration.
    or try one by one!

confirm : Using "Bridged" dialer mode
    or
    PPP/PPPoE "always on" mode.

confirm you have downloaded the manual.
    There are too many options.

    I'm using bridge mode

I understand the rebook options and I have always checked it before I reboot after configuring

Yes I have downloaded the manual and followed it but it has no solution for this problem.

    the problem is

When I reboot.........the config and the settings do not change (they stay as they are best config for BSNL) but I dont know why despite having the right config I'm not able to conect after reboot.

Will try all the other reboot options....................
Do let me know if u find any solution......

Extract from earlier post No 10.
    I don't use/have this modem.
Now you will need to click on the Submit button to apply the changes.
save the changes. To do this, click on the Admin tab at the top of the screen.

After clicking on Admin, we will need to click Commit & Reboot.
This will bring us to the Commit & Reboot page.

From this menu you will need to make sure that the Reboot Mode is set to Reboot.

Now, click on the Commit button. When the screen flashes back to the same page click on the Reboot button.

Now the screen will change to a screen detailing that the system (modem)
is rebooting. After about 2-3 minutes, the modem will have rebooted
itself and show a light status resembling a bridged connection.
