Default Sharing Internet between 2 computers

I've 2 pc at home having winxp in both. I'm using UL 750 in one of the pc with USB cable. The Dataone ADSL modem is "SmartAX MT882" from Huawei.

Both computer have lan. Can I just join both computer lans through a simple lan cable and do some settings. Will this work for internet sharing or there is technical part of it?

i think you can buy a network hub and connect both the system to this hub and connect to the net

or

you can buy a router which will also work

hubs are cheaper routers are more expensive

1.I don't know the networking part of pc. Can't a simple lan wire be connected to 2pc's lan card to work??? Is this not possible?

2. Is it compulsory to buy either a router OR hub to have lan between only 2 computers? What are the general price for both? And which company hub/router should I buy?

3. Does a newbie like me in networking can setup a lan between 2 pcs or i've to get some technical person.

Man, I've never seen such a quick reply in any forum..........

there are two ways to do it .. since 1 pc is connected via usb , you can connect the other pc via LAN from the same modem.. your modem should have 1 usb port and 1 lan port..
OR
YOu could connect the two pcs together, via crossover cable and enable ICS in the pc connected to the modem via usb.. but for internet to work on the second pc to work the main pc has to be on always

Thanks man. I'll follow the above one. For this do I have to be connected in one pc to use internet? And is there some settings to be done to get internet working on both the pc? Any website link or help will be apprecited.

SmartAX MT-882 ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION I found this link, is it necessary to do this.

Yes aas Superprash said I think you can do by this way. And also you have to be in ppoe (always on) mode. Otherwise. one of your 2 PC will get the Net and other not.

Sorry, but I'm still dumb when it comes to LAN/Networking. I would like to explain what I've done till now.

1. I've connected the first pc USB to ADSL modem where I use WinXP 1.
2. I've connected the second pc LAN to ADSL modem where I use WinXP 2.
(I can connect to internet on both the computers but only one at a time i.e., I've to to disconnect on one computer to connect on another.)

Is there a tutorial so that both the computer can run internet at the same time. Well, this can be easy job for most of the people here but for people like me it's quite troublesome work. Though I tried to configure as steps provided at SmartAX MT-882 ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION but whenever I type http://192.168.1.10 in IE6 nothing comes up. Tried in both the pc and nothing comes up. Is this the way I can make internet work on both the pc? And does it require to follow the steps provided in the website (mentioned above) to be followed on both the pc's?

I'll love to see internet running on both of my pc at the same time........

It started working. I did it......thanks to India Broadband forum, I couldn't have done without you..........

Just one more question, with this settings:

1. I've connected the first pc USB to ADSL modem where I use WinXP 1.
2. I've connected the second pc LAN to ADSL modem where I use WinXP 2.

Can I share files through LAN between these two computers? If no then what are the ways? And If yes, how can I do that? A website link will do........Thanks in advance......CHEERS

thanks superprash2003,
thanks for your guidance. I have a similar situation and have found your guidance useful to connect both PCs to Net simultaneously.

You should make both machines part of the same workgroup or domain. Refer this guide: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...etworking.html (A Guide to SOHO Networking)
