    Default Sterlite MT882 overheating

    Hello

We have a BSNL-supplied Sterlite MT882 that is overheating and shutting down. After 15 minutes cooling down it works OK again for a while.

Technical support say it is because we have too much traffic going through it and we should upgrade to a better product. Does that sound likely? I have never before heard of a modem that overheats because of "too much traffic".

    Thanks SuperPrash

No -- it's switched off overnight, usually at end of normal office hours, sometimes a few hours later.

Default my first post - a helper!

    Hi Catkin,

dunno if u've already figured this out yet, but keeping the MT-882 modem in a STANDING POSITION (vertical) instead of the usual laid down position helps the heating problem a lot!

I have the same modem and use it very heavily, esp. at nights for torrent downloads. I used to be afraid of the overheating until I discovered this simple solution! basically, the UNDERSIDE of the modem is what gets very heated. so exposing it to air cools down the modem significantly...even better if u can keep a fan to it!

    cheers.

Thanks pjaveed and congrats on your first post being a helper

Helpful idea for maximising the cooling.

I haven't tried it because I wanted to see the overheating problem reported by the users for myself. How would they know the modem had overheated? Were they presuming it had overheated? Was switching it off for 15 minutes just re-initialising the connection with the exchange?

So far I have not seen any evidence to support the idea that it was overheating (although it does feel and smell very hot) or that "too much" traffic was going through it.
