try assigning a static ip i.e. manually assign your IP address in the control panel as follows

    IP address: 192.168.1.(any number b/w 2 & 254)
    subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

    Primary DNS: 208.67.220.220
    Sec. DNS: 208.67.222.222

try the above method and see if it works

Use any IP number from 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.100.

Or enable DHCP in the modem.

I think that you have not assigned an IP to the host
due to which it tries to search for IP form a DHCP server and does not find one

if you configure your modem to act as DHCP server you will be able to get the IP when the client request
