Default My upgrade from DIAS to DataONE

DataOne Broadband ... in short has been Good . I am not the one to complain if i have recieved above the line service. Like DiAS , i was once again one of the first customers of Dataone when it came to Kolkata, rather South Kolkata i should say as some of my friends in Central Kolkata already had it before me .
Since the first day i saw the Advert of Braodband from BSNL ( or rather My Dad who saw it and showed me) i started bugging the BSNL people in my area for giving it to me . Initially they just wasn’t interested in hearing me out , saying they werent yet ready , even though the Ads had started coming out . They promised me that they would let me know . But I am not one to sit back so ... i hurried them and actually the guy in the office had to give me the ADSL Modem which was on his table :-)
Well , that was not such a good decission ... when they gave the Modem which they fixed in my computer ( which was on a Network ) they then announced that they would be taking the Old DIAS Modem back ... then it dawned to me , even if i got the modem my Connection / pwd was not yet available as it comes by Postal mail . !! Now .. listen me out guys ... do not do this yourself , or u will be in similar soup as me . What then happened was the actual password /login came almost 4 days after that and i was without DIAS and as well as without Dataone

But after the connection was made , i can safely say ... connection has been super and speed also has been quite over the mark . Well , now that dioesnt however mean that since then till now i was always satisfied ... WHY ?
Because ... it so happens , that even though i had opted for a Multi User i.e Rs.3000 per month connection , the BSNL people who set it up , hadn’t bothered setting it up for the Multi User and for almost 6 months i was using a Proxy software to take the net to the other machines .
It wasn’t till i started having serious downtime issues and i screamed at them they sent their engineers who then foudn their mistake . And thats not all ... they also told me that it can so happen that even while runnign smoothly for 5 months , your LAN car might suddenly get ignored and not connect ... so it is better to make a connection Directly into from the DSL Modem to the Machine and set the PWD in the modem and not by using 2 LAN Cards ... mind you i am talking of a Multi User scenario ...

So if i had so many problems , why i am still happy ? Coz when it runs and which it does almost 96% of the time it runs very nicely ... and another interesting thing is theirBandwith meter doesnt check the Non HTTP downloads ... like Peer to Peer file sharing softwares or probably even FTP . :-)

Question

This is an interesting post and thanks for the advance info, cos i am also facing the same situation, DIAS has really let me down, i download .exe files but 98% of them are corrupt even after having been fully downloaded, moreover a 5 mb file takes more than 40 mins to download and on top of it, it may not open i have download phobia now... i am hoping that dataone will be better. I have also opted for the 3000 business plan and i am going to use a dlink adsl router and i am already using a 16 port dlink switch, i guess i will have to configure the password in the modem. will keep my experiences posted... till then i am keeping my fingers crossed...

Default multi user config using dlink 502t adsl router

I have been using dataone broadband for over a week now and i am quite satisfied with the speed, regarding download and upload the speed is quite ok but regarding downloads its not just http downloads that are counted even the non http downloads through p2p networks are monitored and i have a sneaking suspicicion that such downloads from p2p are not even counted but the meter that bsnl uses multiplies such downloads.
i am at present using a dlink 502t adsl router. and configuring it was not such a big problem as i had anticipated. the user interface was quite ok and easy to configure it was just when i reached the setting for vpi and vci that i had a little problem where the default value had been set to 32 and it was refusing to go up to 35 i had to go to wan settings and increace the value to 51 over there. like i said in my earlier post i am using the dlink 16 port switch and for those of you who are planning to use the same configuration i can tell u that u will have to use a crossover cable to connect from the modem to the switch the ip address configuration for the computers is not needed and you will just have to let the computers acquire an ip address automatically by ticking on the appropriate box (this particular router works as a dhcp router). if there are any problems u have with a similar kind of config do post your problems here, i will try to share my experience with you ...
