dont rely on speed test as these are not accurate and definitley if you are complaining about the upload speed then you will definitely get low upload speeds as compared to download speed

but, is 40 kbps upload speed sufficient enough for a 256 K connection? .... and i have tested it on many sites. D/U meter also shows Up speed of not more than 50 kbps.

64kbps or 8KBps is the max upload speed for 256kbps plan & you won't get full speed but around 80-90% so by that account you should get around 51-57kbps upload speed.also if you are far away from exchange that also affects the upload speed.i get around 400 kbps upload speed while given upload speed is 512kbps in home 500 plan & i am around 2 km away from local exchange.

my mistake!originally bsnl has the policy of providing upload speed as 1/4th of max download speed but later they changed it for unlimited plan 256kbps which now has upload speed=download speed but for limited plans like home 500 this policy still holds.

this value is very low.it must be above 10.make sure that the line goes into splitter directly & no phone is connected before splitter.also you need to get your line checked by bsnl.before that make sure that operational mode of modem is G.dmt & not ADSL2.

BSNL uses ADSL technology. and you know ADSL stands for assymatric digital subscriber line. thus there should be assymatry between upload and download speed
