To answer your first question, port forwarding is the best option to increase your torrent speed. Look at the bottom of your utorrent, if there is a green flag, then it already port forwarded, if it is some other color, then you need to port forward.

also it's not entirely impossible for usage to be this much.windows has an automatic update feature & even if you turn this off there is still an advanced option which reserves certain % of bandwidth to windows which you can access using group policy editor.also many softwares by default have their automatic update option on.the best way to know how much usage is going on is to point/move your mouse pointer over the BSNL icon in system tray(if using bridge mode)or LAN icon(if using pppoe mode in which you get connected by just turning on the modem).you will see a balloon with bytes send & received.1024bytes=1KB,1024KB=1MB.do some simple calculation using windows calculator & you will get an idea.or you can install DUMeter.
