up to 2 mbps means, u will get speeds between 256 kbps - 2 mbps, it depends on the server load. the best plan?? well it depends on you. my say is if money is not a prob lem go for a home unlimited plan or 500 plans with night unlimited(free 2-8 am)

Hmmm. Whenever the adjective "best" comes in, you will get divided opinions.

You must make a choice based on following:

Fast: Then go for Home 500 Combo plans. They are real value for money. But be sure to schedule heavy downloads during 2 AM and 8 AM and moreover do not forget to switch on or reboot the modem after 2 AM and once again before 8 AM.

Safe: UL 750 plans. They are slower @ 256 kbps but you can download as much as you want at any time. No hassles; no billing worries.

Relatively faster, safe but costly: UL 1350 plans. The are faster @ 512 kbps but costly too. They offer complete safety of the UL 750 plans.

On your second question: most (limited) plans state speeds from 256 kbps up to 2 mbps. What this means is:

    - 256 kbps speed is guaranteed
    - 99% of the times speeds will be greater than 256 kbps
    - maximum speed will be 2 mbps

Folks here will swear that most of them get 1.7 ~ 1.92 mbps on an average.
*** Never argue with an idiot. ***

lets c if i were to comment i wud say...

1] if i cudnt follow how to automate my downloads properly and reboot my modem and schedule download managers and stuff like that... then i wudnt suggest 500 plans.

2] if at all i dont even wish to get up and stay up from 2-5 downloading movies... from rapidshare then i suggest 750 plan so that u have time at any time.

3] if u wish to stay up and can stay up from 2-5 with rapidshare only then i suggest 500 cause then u wud get 2 movies in that time, whereas with 750 unlimited only 1 movie is guaranteed and that too u have to sit at ur comp for almost 8 hours.

4] if u like downloading ur stuff from torrrents then i suggest u get 500 cos then u need not worry about urself staying up at night. u can keep the files listed... get up at 2.10am and start ur download and go back to sleep and get up at 7.45 precisely and turn it off. by then u shud have 2 and half to 3 movies done.

5] if u r the type who likes to surf alot during the day... then go for 750... cos 500 will eat up that limited space of 2.5 gb very fast depending on the websites u visit. the sites with heavy content always eats ur limtid space if u know that already.

6]if u dont like the day for surfing an have more of an objective to just browse for an hour everyday and schedule downloads for night then 500 is best!!

in my conclusion if u r a heavy downloader who loves his media and entertainment by night, then go for 500... and if ur the type like me who likes to review everything that is downloaded before they download then 750 shud be ok or 1350.

yup really wish i had more money to buy the 1350 UL cos on top of that u have to add 12.8 tax and 90 for rental as well which means 1500 a month... and already it hurts me to have to pay 950 for 750 UL

Iam thinking to shift from u750 to 500 . Can you please elobrate "why switching or rebooting the modem after 2 AM and once again before 8 Am." What happens if i forget that.

I would suggest you (from my experience) the home 500 c plan. it has the speed and you can download unlimited during night time. The unlimited plan is not worth it as the speed is too slow to download anything faster.

If you do not take care to reboot after 2 AM and again before 8 AM, you do not get the night time free. The entire usage is calculated as standard usage.

    Modem, definitely.

In any case, if your modem is configured in PPPoE mode, then booting the PC will not help at all as modem still has the internet connection intact.

In bridge mode, you must break and reconnect the connection. But even here, rebooting modem will be the best/safest option.

i am using bridge mode since i got the connection & disconnecting/reconnecting works fine with no need to reboot modem though for safety i use a 5-10 seconds break between disconnecting & reconnecting.

Yes. One should reboot again just before 8 AM also.

The thing is, the BSNL connection must be established (or re-established) after 2 AM and broken before 8 AM. You can do this in many ways:

    a) Reboot the router
    b) If in bridge mode, disconnect and re-dial again.
    c) Switch off the power off and on to the router

Just make sure that (damn) connection is reset/reconnected/released after 2 AM (say at 2:05 AM) and once again before 8 AM (say 7:55 AM).
