Question Slow internet with WRT54G linksys router and MT882 BSNL broadband modem

Hi Folks, really need some help.

I've finally managed to configure the WRT54G linksys router with the MT882 modem from BSNL. (Thanks to just4kix post in this forum). But the speed has dropped to around 140Kbps!!

Has anybody faced similar situation? Any tips on how to solve this problem?

    1) Configured BRIDGE MODE on MT882 Modem.
    2) Configured PPPoE using BSNL user/pass on Linksys WRT54G router.
    3) Setup WEP 128 bit security on router. (Doesn't help disabling security)
    4) Local IP address of both router & modem are 192.168.1.1. Should one of them be changed? How does it help?
    5) Should DHCP be disabled on either router/modem? If so, which one?

    What do I do?

One more thing. The wireless adapter is Inter(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG. But clicking that under devices is saying "Adapter state not found in registry".

    Thanks in advance.

What is your plan? Speed depend upon the plan. Speed cannot drop because one more device has been added.

This must be different at the subnet level; else network will not work. Change linksys IP address to 192.168.2.1

    Leave it ON, in both.

I think it's Home 500 plan. Have 2 Mbps bandwidth. Have done a general search and find a lot of posts with speed dropping with a linksys router. Maybe some tweaking required or maybe the new router i bought is defective. How do I find out?

Also, the initial lookup of any website is the most time consuming. After that speed for that website picks up. Looks like a DNS configuration problem.

I actually tried this. But I was unable to access the router's web-client on the modified IP after the change.

Lastly, I read in some posts that static IP should be removed and the "assign IP automatically" or something like that must be enabled. Is that so?

To measure speed, I've used: 2wire and reliancecommunication websites.
