Exclamation Very high u/l d/l recorded

My problem is very high u/l + d/l is recorded. I called local BSNL officer in charge of broadband but he expressed his inability to help me.

I checked my account on the BSNL Broadband Account Management site and compared it with the Nettracker values. Net tracker values are much higher than on the BSNL site.

A session which involves checking the mail and downloading a few text messages sets me back by 5 - 10 Mb as recorded by Nettracker.

The highest recorded as shown on the BSNL site was u/l + d/l of 254 Mb in 169 minutes.

Neither am I watching lots of videos nor down loading too many images, playing online games nor other such files. I have a proprietory virus guard and a fire installed, though for a while for a few days the fire wall was disabled.

I checked with the person who services my PC, he too is not very sure what can be done. He suggested that I format my hard disk.

Will any body suggest remedies? The resultant bills are burning a hole in my pocket.

The only reliable and fool proof solution would be to get an unlimited connection.

True but I am in love with the speed which the present plan offers and I fear that I will loose it if I go in for the u/l plan.

A 256kbps connection is not for browsing and all and you would not even experience any changes in browsing experience if you changed your plan to a 256kbps cunlimite connection and the only difference you would ever see is the downloading speed while downloading a file.

Its still better to compromise on speed as compared to getting an inflated bill.

you could reset your router.. your router should have a reset hole or button.. resetting will clear all the settings in your modem. .so ensure that you know your bsnl username and pasword before doing so..

Admin I am in a unlimited PLAN. and the plan is 1350UL. But the problem i am facing is that. Very law download speed. It gives 55 - 60KB/s at an average. To download 100MB it takes 30 min. So I download the link and send it to my friend who is having 500 Home. And he download the files for me. That is why Unlimited plan is not good.

you could do the mac filtering as you did earlier.. but ensure that you enter the correct mac address...
an easier option would be to setup a strong wifi password ..WPA type.. this would ensure that only those who know the password can access

Adsl technology has its limits and you cannot get a speed of 756Mbps ... must have been a mistake on your part in measuring the speed or the speed test you used was drunk or something.

Or did you mean 756kbps ?

Default for orignal poster

@ the orignal topic starter.. jst make sure you have disabled your torrents.. better jst exit ur torrent programme when ur done cos it keeps seeding even when downloads are done...
disable automatic updates..
check ur system with a good antivirus...
try using some programme like proxifier that tell you which application is using the bandwidth

The problem with ur service is the fact that there are unrecognised programs that are running in the background which is consuming your bandwith..Check for any File sharing softwares such as Limewire,Kazaa etc also check for Automatic Updates and check their scheduling..even though ur Computer is siwtch off but these Programs still run..the best way is to call ur ISP when ur PC is off and advise them to check for the data flow and if there is high amount of data flow then it's definitely ur PC mate!!!

Good luck
