sorry i meant restart by reset... just switching off the modem and then back on... sorry for that... well i think there isnt any problem while in PPPoE mode... but i didnt wanted to have "aways on" internet... its that while in bridge mode i could connect or disconnect from internet using some scheduler like "Advanced Task Scheduler"..

so lets say ur power to ur modem is on and then ur power goes off and again power comes on... shudnt ur modem be on automatically cos it wud obviously detect the power to it... so y do u have to restart the modem by pressing on and off switch...

and by the way how long does current outage last normally??

if u were to right click ur bsnl icon on desktop [which helps u sign in] and select properties... u wud come across an option that offers redial attempts... so u wud have to increase the number of redial attempts jus incase power goes off for 5 minutes...

so if u set redial attempts to 99 and the time gap of 1 minute between every redial attempt... then the bsnl desktop icon would automatically sign u in cos as soon as the current goes off, the connection icon detects it and tries to sign in again making redial attempts until the power comes on.

if u dont understand what im saying then say so cos then if anyone else reads they maybe able to explain better!!

hey one thing, when i say power cut i mean full system switch off... modem, cpu everything loses power.. i have set it so that when power returns my computer will automatically start and log me in...i have also set to automatically initiate a connect to internet after i logs in.. but i get a message that network card is disabled...(with the red cross on the lan icon in taskbar)... but when i restarts the modem using the on/off switch it goes away... modem starts fine but problem is it isnt detecting the data transfer with my system when it starts after a power outage...

hey thats nothing fancy... there is an option in the bios what to do after a power failure... options are "last state, power off, and always on" and i set it to last state... simple as that...

using this BIOS option means PC remembers the last state & that's the problem.you see as soon as power goes LAN gets disconnected & this was remembered by your PC so when PC restored it's last state LAN icon shows a cross & to refresh it's status you have to restart modem.i think this is the problem.what you can try is using some script to repair/re-enable your LAN connection after restart.

i dont think some script will make it right as the system physically cannot identify whats on the other end of its network card... thats why it says "network card unplugged"
