Rep Power: 2 | Hi folks, I have seen various posts floating around the forum on the same issue since quite some time now. I too am facing the same issue of accessing the internet. I need to access internet simultaneously on two computers viz. one laptop{through WiFi} and one desktop{through ethernet cable}. From all your posts I have done these following settings by logging in to the router 192.168.1.1: 1]Changed mode to PPPoE mode. 2]Enabled the wireless network. 3]Enabled the SNAP bridging. 4]Inputted username/password in the Advanced Setup WAN settings as given by BSNL. I am unable to connect to the internet despite of being shown a valid IP { got that by running the ipconfig command in the "cmd" prompt} 192.168.x.x I am able to ping my default gateway: 192.168.1.1 and it gives me a reply. Any pointers/suggestions to help me with the same? Thanks a lot ! PS: I have gone through all posts of WA3002G4 on this forum and none could solve my issue. |

Rep Power: 2 | I already have Zone Alarm suite installed. I have also tried pinging the server IP in the BB details which gives me a reply. Any other solutions ? |

| Platinum Member | In the modem's status page: a) Does it show you as connected? b) Do you get a real IP address to your modem, e.g., 117.xx.xx.xx or 59.xx.xx.xx? c) The status page also has a "display log" or some such option. Check the connection log and if possible paste the results here. I think that your connection to ISP is not going thru. 192.168.x.x is not a real IP address - it is your internal IP address. When you entered the username in the WAN tab, enter the username without the "@bsnl.in" suffix. If that does not work, add the suffix and check again. If PPPoE does not work, try the bridge option and create a dialer. Check what happens.

a] It does show me as connected b] I don't quite understand this question as I don't know how to check the IP address of the modem. However, I do get an internal IP address as you mentioned like 192.168.*.* If you can let me know how to check the IP address of the modem it would be really grateful. c] Are you talking of Device Status Info log. I will surely post some contents as soon as I can. I have given my username without the @bsnl.in suffix . The dialer too is facing the same problem. Should I try pinging external websites like yahoo or google and check the results ? Thanks for the reply.

| Platinum Member | If you are connected, then you should get a real IP address to your router. Check the status page. I do not know your modem so I will not be able to show "check where?". If you look at some my guides (sticky posts in BSNL forum), I have shown how to verify that internet connection is verified in the status page. |

Rep Power: 4 | well try another browser- also try after shuting down zone alarm-the conn is shown in task bar- the one which has ip like 192.168..... is ur lancard-modem connection- the other one with ip 59.... or 172.....is ur bb connection, in the details u ll get ur ip as cient ip, under server ip. |

I have tried both of the solutions mentioned viz. disabling Zone Alarm and using another browser like IE. I can't recollect properly but I think I might be assigned a client as well as server IP for sure. Will post the contents asap here. Thanks

Rep Power: 2 | Hi friends, Thanks for all your efforts. I am able to resolve my issue and connect to the internet. However, I just need a little bit more help. Currently I am using WPA-PSK as my wireless network authentication. I would really like to know how safe it is. I really don't think it's safe as you can easily log in to the router {if you receive the network} and check the PSK{Pre-Shared Key} as there's an option to display it in the router settings page. What are the other types of security connections ? PS: I don't want to change the password to log on to the router. I want to retain the defaults. Thanks once again and hoping an effervescent response. |
