I was using the dial up mode earlier.I had problem in connecting.Few days back I reset my modem and dialed again and it started working. When I chekced the modem setting I found some unique username and password.I thought it was some sort of default username password.Since I was able to connect I didn't change the username and continued to access through dial up.

Couple of days back I started to get very frequesnt disconnections with the error "Phone Line is Busy". Then I changed the earlier default username to my username password. To my surprise without changing any settings my connection changed into always on mode.

I am not a tech guy.I have no explanation.May be adminstrator or any senoir meber can throw some more light on this.

you can see a scrolling line in BSNL NIB-II PORTAL. In which its is written that use ppoe mode to avoid error 676, 678 etc etc. so follow the link provided by Whitestar. It is a very good guide from BSNL

Thanks everyone for the help!!!!!!!.One small question.I am using always on mode. I have been getting the error Page can not be displayed very frequently.I am not sure if something is wrong from my side or BSNL side.Is there any way to find in Always on mode that data is not flowing from the main server and I should wait to get connected.

in modem connection settings there should be a green sign & "connected"should be displayed around the connection named something like pppoe_0_35_.if it is connected & you are getting errors try opening bsnl sites & if you can open them without any problems then try changing dns servers to open dns servers instead of using bsnl's.their addresses are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.you can also confirm it by try to open the error giving sites using proxy sites like anonymouse.if those sites opens using proxy but normally gives you error then dns is the problem.also make sure to scan your computer with a good antivirus like kaspersky/nod32 etc.

error 718 has nothing to do with your side.it is a problem with bsnl network in your area.as for using sl2_141 in bridge mode post a screenshot of modem's connections page here.

In My place error 676 (Phone Line Busy) becomes a common error to all. The Fact I diagnosed that the external IP, which should like 117.x.x.x, showing a different IP. when I tried to configure the rauter in ppoe mode I noticed that IP. In brief I can say that with the default user id MULTIPLAY and default password of the rauter, the modem gets connected to a unknown server & thus showing phone line busy. Why it is happening? Can anyone explain???????????????

I am telling you the solution that is worked for me just have a try.
try the following steps in sequence

    1) Scan your PC with a antivirus then try connecting
if not connected go to step 2

    2) Delete your present Dataone icon in network in nnetwork connections (or whatever you have named it ) and create new connection with your username and password .
If this don't work go to step 3

    3) restore your PC to an earlier date .
These things have worked for me with windows Xp sp3 when I used to get the message that "Phone line is busy" persistently.
BTW BSNL has nothing to do with this and this is the error generated because wrong configuration of PPPoE on your PC.
when I will find more definitive solutions I'll let you know.

    Default Phone line busy....solution

For all those who r getting phone line busy error.....For any modem
Just configure your modems to Bridge mode...again
If internet light is glowing in wireless modem or Data light in C2210
and u r using bridge mode surely ur modem is connected to default username and password saved in ur modem i.e. multiplay(username & password).
Just check out ip alloted in that case will be 10.238.x.x series not usual 117.x.x.x So solution is not to go for pppoe mode because in that case anybody can reach upto ur modems and change configurations.
Configure modem in BRIDGE MODE to avoid any future problems.

Error 678 could also be because of poor signal quality. Check the SNR Margin and Line Attenuation values. If SNR Margin is below 10 db or Line Attenuation is above 40 db, raise a complaint with the local exchange and request for a line check.

Also do the following. Keep pen and paper ready. Log a call with '198' - enter telephone number, select option '2' for partial service. This is an automated service and a docket number is given. Note it down. Note that it is given once only and not repeated; hence start jotting it down as soon as it is read out.

After a day, you will get a call from the exchange. Explain the problem to them.
