I am getting the same download speed irrespective of the upload speed. I don't think it will affect.

I agreewith Superprash. I think download speed are not effected by upload speed but yes you will be billed for your uploaded content.

upload speed do affect download speed.e.g.whenever you download something a small amount of data is uploaded too.now if you set your upload rate to max then download will get affected because then it has to compete for upload bandwidth.it is recommended that you set max upload rate to 80% of your max achievable upload rate in uTorrent.

^^ aggreed.. actually ive experimented and found out that .. mostly capping my upload speed to 20-25KBps will give me optimum download speeds.. tho if u set the caps too low on utorrent y0ur download speed will get adversly affected too.. so try to set it to highest level which dosent affects ur download speed.. and make sure ur on unlimited if u increase ur uploads..

I dont think upload speed affect download speed. Though I could be wrong.
I am on a UL750 Plan and I was seeding a torrent (100% completed with lots of leechers) at high upload speed. I left the upload limit to zero & its speed was ~ 29 KBPS. at the same time I was downloading a file from rapidshare and download speed was ~30 KBPS

Upload speed does not affect download. Upload and Download are not linked. They are asynchronous (and that is why it is called ADSL).

Sometimes torrents work on the principle of upload/download ratio. So if you are just a leacher (downloader), the tracker degrades the speed. A ratio of 0.6 or above work well in case of such torrents.

The only worry is during real time usage (non-free time). Because usage is calculated as Download+Upload, having high upload during non-free time will increase your usage.

you need a tiny bit of your upstream to send an acknowledgment for each received data packet.if you set upload to maximum then the ongoing download will obviously get affected because incoming packets won't arrive with same speed if acknowlegment for received packets is send at very low speeds.you can see this yourself.set uTorrent to upload at 60KBps & then try downloading anything using a download manager like IDM.you will see the speeds are lesser than when you exit uTorrent.
