check your speed by downloading a big file like XP SP3 from microsoft site or softpedia using a download manager like flashget & then see how much speed you actually get.try this at different times & preferably on weekdays after 10PM or ~1-2PM or in the mornings ~8AM.

Hi, Before you download a big file, please note that it will counted in your usage limit except from 2 AM to 8 AM under certain conditions.

good point just4kix though one don't have to download the whole file.even 2-3% will be able to give idea about speeds because you can always pause & resume using a download manager when downloading from sites like microsoft or softpedia.

i hope you mean 170KBps as 1KBps=8kbps & all browsers, download managers & torrent softwares etc shows speed in KBps.the connection speed though is always mentioned in kbps.170KBps is normal on a 2mbps connection & it means your connection is fine.

Speedtest.net or any other speedtest is not 100% reliable - although speedtest.net is usually accurate.

The internet speed in India varies continuously and depends upon many factors such as SNR values, line attenuation, server load, etc. Any speed test is carried out by downloading a small file to your server and then uploading it back. Hence at some instant you may get a good speed while at other times, the speed may be lower.

BSNL promises a minimum speed of 256 kbps and anything up to 2 mbps (on limited plans). Most people on an average get 1.7 to 1.92 mbps speed.
