Default Help required in Setting Huawei wa1003A for wireless and lan connectivity using dialu

    Hi

I am having Huwai wa 1003 a type modem and using it with my pc effectivelly in dialup mode. Now i want to connect it to my laptop dell inspirian 1525 through wirelessalso . But i want to retain dialup connection mode to connect to broadband only. As it is easy to restart the pc using Windows task manager in night to use free usage. I am using window vista on both the systems. My laptop shows the wireless connection but it didn't connect.

Since you are using a dialer to connect, it means that you are using a bridge mode.

The disadvantage of the bridge mode is that you can only have one PC connected to internet at a time. For multiple PCs to connect at the same time you must change the configuration to PPPoE (aka Always-On) mode. In PPPoE, your user credentials will be stored in the modem and modem will auto dial for you. Then you will be able to connect PC and laptop simultaneously.

But there could be other issues also, why your laptop does not connect:

    a) Have you assigned static IP to your laptop?
    b) If yes, does it lie in the subnet of the IP address of the modem?
    c) Best way is to enable DHCP in your modem and set the TCP/IP properties to 'automatic' in the local machines.
    d) Have you (by mistake or design) enabled MAC address filtering in your wireless security and not included the laptop MAC address in that filter?
*** Never argue with an idiot. ***

Thanks for the reply. I want a dialup connection and want to access internet only on one at a time i.e. either pc or laptop. Please send me the exact configuration on modem and on pc and laptop.

    Thanks again

In that case, you do not need to do much - just re-create the dialer on both machines.

Have a look at this guide: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...er-wrt54g.html (Setup of ADSL Modem/Router UT-300R2U with Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G)

Section 2 describes creating a dialier.

I have assigned the IP in for laptop and desktop.
...In your modem/wifi router enable DHCP
.....and give a range say 192.168.1.3 to 198.168.1.20

    Default Wa1003a

    Hi,
Earlier I assigned IPs to my desktop and Laptop.
Now I have made DHCP server ON.
I have Dataone shortcut on both and for connecting it asks me Login and password. But at a time only one connects and not other one.
I dont have any security (WEP) installed. Is it necessary?

Also now I m not able to connect modem using IE.

    Please let me know.

Of course. Any body can use your WIFI connection in Range ( say around 20 to 30 feet radius ) to surf.
DO you see other wireless Networks in LAN. Either secured requiring the key or Unsecured without key ?

does pcv0 have vpi/vci as 0/35 .. did you enter your bsnl username and password there.. remember once you set it to ppoe , you dont need to use the shortcut on your desktop.. save/reboot your router once changes have been made..

thats what PPoE does, it eliminates the need to use a dialer.. Your internet would work automatically as soon as you switch on your modem..

Did you follow website link given in Post 6 ?
Quidway WA-1003A ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION

    Enter user nameID without @bsnl.in

Disable the desktop connection. ( do not use it )
Test both Desktop and laptop with LAN connection.

For wireless :Like "Dialup" you have to set a wireless connection in your laptop.
    Start/All programs/accessories/communications/
    Wireless network set up wizard.

    Thanks a lot!
BSNL helped me in setting up both wired and Wireless connectivity for my Desktop and laptop.
Now the question is , can they talk to each other?
I am not able to ping them.

Default WI FI and Desktop issue

    configuring your Router
    a. make sure u have PPOE activated and you have given correct user nam and pwd.
    b. setup wireless security as u feel necessary. its a cake walk.
    c. activate DHCP (not mandatory but it helps).
    d. save and restart the router.

    configuring your laptop
    a. let DHCP assign the ip address to this m/c.
    b. fillin your gateway as 192.168.10.1
    c. setin your wi fi security details
    d. connect and surf.
