Default Cannot connect browsers or chat clients

    Hi Guys,

Im hoping someone can help me out with this issue. My bsnl connection behaves strangely sometimes.
Im not even sure if its a network & hardware or a software issue.

I am unable to connect to any website/chat clients sometimes. I can connect to the router site (192.186.1.1) and the Weblogin (10.240.16.195) site. But nothing else. Torrents work fine too (Any P2P is guess)

Any guesses what might cause this??

I have narrowed it down to suspect its some software problem. The line is absolutely fine, the connections are fine, i can connect to P2P and torrents and even the bsnl and router site but nothing else.

I tried checking the firewall settings too, but its off and even exceptions are added.

It seems as though the connection is moody, it works sometimes it doesnt work the next. I have to try my luck once every few days.

    Looking forward to your posts.

i understand this sounds like network issue, as you said you are able to connect sometimes and can open all webpages but sometimes it behaves strange and provides no access to webpags... so the next time it stops working try to ping and website like google .com or yahoo. com or any web site...
command to ping... go to run box and type
ping www .google. com -t (without any spaces)

and just check if you are getting any reply or not.. if you are not getting any reply on that then it means BSNL stops your webpage access for sometime.. (which is really very much possible due to any network issue)

if you get reply then go for trace route and try using same connection with different computer...

Change to openDNS. Before you ask what is openDNS and how to switch to open DNS, please search the forum form many post on this topic. Use 'openDNS' or 'open DNS' as the search words.

    Hi guys,

thanks for you replies.. yes in fact i did switch to the open dns 208.67.222.222 recently since i heard from many people that it was faster...

i will try to ping the sites next time it happens to narrow it down to whether its jus an error with network or software.

by the way if the dns is the thing which is causing problems.. why are the p2p softwares working??.. i have done port forwarding for Bittorrent.. do these work differently?

As i said.. im not sure why the problem is there..
    Thanks again..

yes kash p2p download ports are different from online surfing ports.. and i think you are very correct here that if its a problem with DNS server then it shoud affect your p2p downloads as well coz if your DNS server is not reachable then it means you dont have connection and without connection its not possbile to carry p2p or any download
