    1.my place is 50meter from BSNL server.
    i.e. I can see the bsnl exchange building from my window.

    2.this problem started happening recently. the up-down speed graph.

    3.i dont have enough posts to add pictures so:
    "speed dot net" test result on 01/may/fri:
    DOWNLOAD:0.18Mb/sec
    UPLOAD :0.34Mb/sec
    PING :411ms
    server :mumbai
    distance :250mi

    DATAONE speed test results on 01/may/fri:
    BSNL BROADBAND SPEED TESTER

    Your IP Address: 117.195.36.132

    Your Current Bandwidth Reading: 1.87 Mbps
    (Download Rate at 239.8 KB/sec)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Old results
    speed test results on 15/april/2009:
    DOWNLOAD:2.27Mb/sec
    UPLOAD :0.66Mb/sec
    PING :181ms
    server :mumbai
    distance :250mi
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    care to explain the HUGE DIFFERENCE?
    I am not using a splitter...i.e. my net disconnects if someone calls.
    but I have a completely different line for bsnl net...nobody knows that number.
    I am using auto-config dns.
    if any1 cares...i can pm the speed test link if they want.

    help appreciated !!!

    pls help...
    if u want me to post my tcpip.sys or some logs or watever, I think I am competent enough to find and post them.

    but pls suggest something.
    appreciated !

    Try switching to openDNS, if that helps. In my case, openDNS gave me less speed. But DNS does not play any part in torrent downloads.

    Since you say that you are technically competent, I am assuming that port is forwarded properly.

    I have not downloaded anything from torrents in the last two months and so I cannot say anything about speed capping. But I cannot imagine why BSNL would do that. Let me try a torrent tonight and check.

    p/s. If you wish to post links, you can post it and add spaces around the dots (.). I will edit your post and correct the link.

    12:00 hrs today:

    21:00 hrs today:

    though significant increase...still no where near 2mbps as before
    will buy a splitter 2mrw & try again.

    thx anyways.

    PS: open dns reduces speed even more.
    also I tried the TCP/IP optimizer program...has anybody used it???
    can u tell me how to use it to edit tcpip.sys
    URL for tcp/ip optimizer:
    SpeedGuide.net :: TCP Optimizer / Downloads

    well well.. here is my topic.. even i wanted to discuss same thing..

    guys.. before it was good for me.. avg speed was coming 190 to 210 KB/s but than.. i dont know since almost more than 25 days .. it has happened.. my speed will not come more than 25KB/s , checked if as per less seeders and leechers and all ratio stuff.. like even if seeders are in 1000 still i am not getting speed...

    particularly it happends during free hours.. from 2 to 8 am... rest in day time it comes 170 to 190 KB/s (i dont expect more) free hours.. i keep downloads.. from 2 to 8 am.. it comes max 450 mb downloaded in free hours.. before it use to be like 2 gb...

    guys... i m not figuring out where is the porblem.. i cant remove utorrent and reinstall.. as all data half downloaded.. all are in gbs.. waiting to finish..but at such rate i guess its ever ending..

    more problem i will tell u is if i will launch utorrent.. i will not be able to surf.. pc freezes.. like it use to happen only if the speed go higher more than 210KB/s where whole bandwith might be used.. but this is like even in 10 to 15 KB/s i wont be able to surf or do anything.. wats the problem can any one tell me??

    all problems during free hours not else in day..

    P. S.: i am using home 500 plan ... pl help me out...

    Can it be a virus. I mentioned since you told about hanging. Some kind of stuff work when we download. Did you check the download meter. Use Bitmeter and see what is the download speed. May be there is some hidden parallel connection reducing your speed. Because they sent too many connections with high priority that ours get ignored.

    @Mr. Tooth Fairy, You will not loose your GBs if you reinstall utorrent even if they are not completely downloaded.

    do u think kixxi... just reinstalling may do the job?? i was planning to formatt and reinstall OS.. but than. .. little i know how to move data from my c drive.. ie my torrents...to other drive .. later i can move them back.. and resume from where it was remaining...

    well virus is there in my pc.. i know.. but as u saying.. abt parallel connection and high priority connections.. i dont think that is happening in my pc.. as per.. i check my usage.. its perfect... to how much i use.. otherwise.. if such parallel connection remains unnoticed.. my bsnl usage meter must be increased.. which never happened... so.. i think not a problem:001_tt2::001_tt2:

    It works in a strange way at times.It can work without even increasing your usage to a noticeable extent. But still count it as one of the possibilities.

    You should go to www.data.bsnl.in or bbservice.bsnl.in and check your account status & check your Old Plan 750UL closed & New Plan 500C provisioned or not. If it's provisioned then your new Plan successfully changed & you should take this advantage.

    Please check the effective date. Try a download from Microsoft website or download.com.

    If you still face problem, It will be wise to check with the divisional engineer. Sometimes, it will be an error from their side. The portal can lie. I am sure none of us believe BSNL portal is dependable. So use a vocal confirmation and lodge a complaint.

    If you do not use good torrents, even port forwarding wont help. But port forwarding ensures maximum speed with good torrents. Please mention your modem - model and make. Or you can use portforward.com and check your model.

    For step by step instructions, use this link

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...-settings.html (How to set TCP/IP settings)

    NU speed may reduce according to the no of users and congestion of bandwidth due to heavy downloading. If it is only with torrents, then try port forwarding.

    160 kbps is not "so good" a speed for your plan.

    1) Check this post: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...tml#post148009 (Unstable internet connection.)
    And make sure that your setup is not causing any problem. If your setup is not correct, correct it.

    2) Go to speedtest.net or, recommendably here: Broadband Speed Test and Internet Bandwidth Community
    And have a test of your speed. In the recommended site, you have to do two different tests for checking upload and download speeds. It is expected to provide you a better and precise value for you if you choose larger file size (greater than 5-6 MB).

    Microsoft site is the best to check the download speed. Some sites may not give good speed.
