I usually get around 200KBps+ with torrents and around 240KBps+ with direct downloads ................
though all these figures depends on the server load, seeds, leechers etc.

There are so many threads on this topic. Please search. Is it only with torrents. If so, try port forwarding.

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...ing-guide.html

    You can also try portforward.com

Please specify your plan. Does it have night unlimited. Mention your modem -model and make.

Default Internet Speed Slow. Some sites are slow, mtorrent is fast. Please help

    Hello to all,

Its been more than a month i have BSNL UL 1350 Package.

Inititially there was frequent disconnection problem. But, it was resolved by the line man.

But today, the net is Slow. But strange thing is. If i open some sites they are slow. Like this site is slow. But if i open ibnlive.com it is opening fast.

Also i stopped all browsers and then opened mtorrent. and started one torrent download. It is reaching 60 KB/sec whichi is good.

But most of the sites are very slow. What could be the reason?

How do i find the proble and solve it?

    1) Check if your port is forwarded properly. You can search the forums for guides and tips regarding this.

    2) Make sure that you get a torrent with a good seed to peer ratio.
Always look for torrents with the best seed/peer ratio. The more seeds (compared to peers) the better (in general). So 50 seeds and 50 peers is better than 500 seeds and 1000 peers. So, be selective.
    3) And there are many more things you can do. Just search our forums. There are lots of threads dealing with this.

There were reports of low speed during the beginning of the month. Please specify when the speed drop occurs. While NU or always. I hope you have done port forwarding for the torrent client.

Buddy torrent speed will vary depending on the number of seeders present (assuming that you know how torrent works i am troubleshooting other things)

First check if that port is forwarded or not (can use portforward.com)
confirm the download speed by downloading directly from the Microsoft.com (anything just to check)
If you are getting the full speed ie 220+ kBps then your line is ok and there is problem with utorrent configuration only.

you can refer here for the total configuration

    Torrent speeds depend mainly on

    1. Good torrent - No. of seeds, leechers, tracker, share ratio etc

Solution - Select a different torrent.

    2. Ability to accept connections -

    Solution : Port forwarding.

    How to port forward ?

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/broadb...ing-guide.html

For specific instructions, please check portforward.com and select your modem.

But they are not doing that.

Torrents work on P2P protocol and there should be be seeds willing to share. And then, a torrent is downloaded in pieces. Even if there are seeds there must be a seed that has the piece that you require. Even if you are a willing seed, the tracker decides who are the seeds to a particular connection.
    What's NIB ?

Is it Network Interface Backbone ?

    @meetdilip
What does this mean ? Contention ratio is 1:50 how will it affect the speed.
    faq31.
    Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
What is contention or a contention ratio?
To provide a cost effective service -
all ADSL services are contended (shared).
These contention ratios are applied in the backbone
and international part of the network.
    A commonly applied contention rate is 50 : 1.

All customers are guaranteed the plan rate up to
the local exchange or the ADSL equipment to which
    they are connected.

On the shared part of the network a 50:1 contention ratio
    would mean
that a 2 Mbps connection would be shared by 49 others.

In reality this is very unlikely to happen and the customer
would find the connection much faster than dial-up modems.
ADSL relies on individual users not making unreasonable traffic
demands on the network to provide fast access speeds for all.

If you are not getting the speed you expect,
it can be due to the contention ratio but also to many other
factors including the congestion at the remote site you are accessing.
