    Default Calling All BSNL GURU's

I have some Queries that I hope that all those who use BSNL will be able to help me.....

U see that I have recently shifted to Ahmedabad. This City though not like the 4 metros, but is at par with cities like GURGOAN, PUNE, NOIDA, etc...
Morerover there are a number of private service providers here such as AIRTEL, TATA, RELIANCE, SIFY, along with a number of small Player like Icenet, SITI cabel, etc.
This information is posted by me b'coz it may help you in answering the the following queries that I am posting..

Q.1) I have shifted to this house in the city and it already has The BSNL SOCKET (TWO PIN SOCKET FOUND IN ALL HOMES FOR BSNL PHONE CONNECTION) now the problem is that I am planning to go for BSNL HOME PLAN 3300 or BSNL 8 MBps (HAVE NOT DECIDED YET) and I have found on the net that the old copper wires used by BSNL earlier won't be able to provide such high end and stable comnnections so for that fiber optics cabels may be used. This house has copper wires I am sure.
So please guide what should I do...???

Q.2) I have also come across on some of the old posting of this forum that state that BSNL tend to block TORRENT SITES. Now is that true.????

Q.3) Also can someone lemme knw what will Be that HTTP Downloading Speed for Both the Connections BSNL HOME PLAN 2MBps and BSNL 8 MBps. Anyone using these connections give suggestions...

Q.4) In case of BSNL 8 MBps PLAN I further found on the net that the BSNL Machinery and BSNL Modems (the one which they give on rent or purchase) lack the ability to give a 8 MBps and the speed will be more or less 2 MBps.. only. If the following case is true will purchase of different Modem from Market help.

Q.5) Can anyone provide me with a Toll Free Number of BSNL where I can ask and clear all Such Queries...

Thanks for reading and answering (if u happen to)

Ans 1.fibre optic cables are normally used for connections 100mbps & higher.existing copper cables can easily support speeds upto ~25mbps.

Ans 2.no!though you have to setup your modem, computer & torrent software correctly to get max possible speeds from torrents.

Ans 3.for 2mbps plans speeds are ~215-230KBps on an average.for 8mbps plan you should be able to get ~860KBps but keep in mind all 8mbps plans are business plans & comes with no 2-8AM free downloading like 2mbps home plans.

Ans 4.now-a-days bsnl provided modems are not problem but yes local exchange must have the newer machinery installed.

    Adding to the above:

Ans 2: BSNL does not block torrents. All of us are happily downloading.

And 5: The BSNL toll free number is 1-800-425-1425.

As far as other queries are concerned regarding capability of 8 mbps, etc., BSNL is answerable to TRAI and consumers for claiming speed. If they incapable of those speeds then they cannot claim those speed and charge for them. You can take them to consumer court on this front.

Default Thanks but Still two more Queries....

First Thanks to both WHITESTAR 999 and just4klix...

But I still have one more query

Relating to the speed of BSNL HOME PLAN 3300 2MBps won't the speed be
    2*1024 = 2048
    i.e 2048/8 = 256kbps

I hope the calculation is right.... The PLAN 3300 gives a constant speed of 2MBps so the variation of speed must not be there like in other lesser PLAN of BSNL which give a speed such as 256kb-2mb or 512-2mb and where the average is considered.....

    the 2 mbps means 2 mega bits i.e 2048 kilo bits = 256 kilo bytes / second
and pal u will never get constant 2 mbps, its above 1 for continuous browsing, n 210-240 KBps for idm downloads

you will never get 100% of your connection speed but ~85-90% of that speed because of technical limits.
