    try this link---
    BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU

also in your modem settings look for SNR values in overview/status tab.if any SNR value is below 10 you will face frequent disconnections.

if the internet light is flickering then its ok and you need not to worry about internet light..

but if it is dropping connection frequently then you can try to check SNR value and apart from that check your
    firewall setting
    modem idle timeout
    run spyware check

and we really face lot many problems on PPPoE as well... somewhere its same but provides better connectivity...

low SNR values indicates line problem.make sure that telephone line coming into house goes directly into the splitter & no phone is connected before splitter.check that line has no cuts/joints & you should not hear any background noise in telephone.if everything is alright on your end then you need to get your line checked by bsnl & they will fix the problem.

thank you for your help!! i think the issue is with my telephone line i just checked the wire has got stretched at 1 point to an extent that the plastic covering itself has peeled and exposed the wires rectifying it now. also is it possible to change the wire personally as bsnl is known for bad customer service i dont expect them to respond soon. the juncton box is very near my house and as i live in a private house dont think changign it will be a issue....please advice.

also is SNR value same as SNR margin....i failed to find anything called SNR value and now after wire change i am getting 8db-downstream and 12db-upstream so is this SR value a sum of both as i pressume?

changing telephone wire personally is not a good idea unless you have some prior experience in such things.first try with what you are doing to rectify that joint & see if SNR improves.if it does then no problem.

    Mode: ADSL2+
mode should be G.dmt.change it to G.dmt & then see if SNR values improves.SNR here means SNR margin values indeed & they are different for upstream & downstream.both values must be above 10 for smooth connection.

i tried what you told me above but the speeds fell drastically. earlier when adsl2+ was enabled i used to get speeds of 30-35kbps on torrents ,but now the speeds have fallen to a mere 20kbps.....also i have requested bsnl for a wire change hope they come soon.

don't uncheck options like bitswap, annexM but only other modes like ADSL2,T1.413,Glite.take a look here for various modes---

Default Same problem getting disconnected often

Checked my SNR value it is 20 and the Attn. 15, but still this problem updated my MT841 firmware, but of no help. what could the reason be then?? of spl mention is that during peak hours this happens most frequently

also check that mode is G.dmt not ADSL2/2+ in settings.however if the problem is not there during off hours then most probably problem is with bsnl network.
