Default switching to airtel from bsnl

For the past year my downstream snr value is low and downstream attenuation value is high. I have complained and asked them to check my telephone line. The bsnl people say my telephone line is perfectly alright.

    Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin (dB): 14.1 23.0
    Attenuation (dB): 46.0 22.9

After seeing airtel broadband speeds at my friend's house(mantri paradise) on bannerghata road. He has a 2 mbps Rs. 2222 plan. He gets speeds of 240-246 kBps during daytime. Will post screenshot soon!

I used to have home 500 plan(2 mbps) from bsnl. I only saw 170-180 kBps at night( 2-8 am). I now have UL750 from BSNL.

I have an airtel landline. Should I switch to Airtel? Please also suggest a plan if so?

as far as i know AIRTEL does not offer unlimited plans of 2mbps.1mbps UL plan costs Rs.2222 though.also Attn depends on how far are you from local exchange.for a distance ~2.5KM Attn will be ~30-32.farther the distance greater will be Attn.also speeds depends on how many users are downloading at same time so if 30-40 users are downloading in your area between 2-8AM you will obviously get less speeds as all ISP's in world provide ADSL connection shared between users assuming that not all users will use it at same time for downloading.it's not like BSNL or any ISP including AIRTEL is giving 2mbps dedicated lines to each customer.it is called contention ratio & for BSNL it's value is 50 meaning 50 users can share same 2mbps connection but in reality not this many users use connection at same time.

What whitestar has said above is correct.

Many people expect that they will get a 2 mbps connection by default (on Home limited plans). This is an incorrect assumption. 2 mbps is the max speed that you can get. It all depends upon the number of online users at that time.

I have got 180-220 KB/s consistently during 2 AM to 8 AM window. But a month ago, I too, was suffering from frequent disconnections. I made frequent complaints on toll free number and in writing. The linesman fixed the line and I am quite happy now. If you are/were getting 180 KB/s consistently and with no frequent disconnections, I think you are alright.

My SNR Margin and Attenuation values are as follows:

SNR Margin (Down/Up): 8~10 db and 6~8 db (sometimes both are > 10 db)
Line Attn (Down/Up): 32~34 db and 32~34 db

Regarding switching to Airtel - it is a personal choice. To me Rs. 2222 plus taxes is a very heavy amount to pay for internet unless your life depends upon it, you are self employed and work from home. Of course you may always choose a lower cost plan. But does Airtel offer you free nighttime usage at 2 mbps? I am not sure.

I am within 2 km from my local exchange. I hav UL750 frm BSNL. My friend had 128 kbps unlimited from airtel. 2 months ago he got 4 months free trial of 2 mbps unlimited. he was getting speeds above 200 kBps. When he called airtel they told him of the trial. He got his modem reconfigured by them. I face disconnection within an hour of usage.
