Default BSNL Broadband trouble ( having a Cable-net connection also )

    Hi everybody,
Over and above my cable-net connection, I have taken a BSNL broadband connection recently.( 6 weeks )
Both the connection goes via the on-board LAN card. Only switching over the wire ( both CAT5 ) connection at the LAN end which is to be used.
I am absolutely happy with the Cable-net.

But the BSNL connection is troubling me too much, after initial few days.
It is a Nokia-Siemens wireless modem.
The link or the yellow light ( & other indicators ) are more or less stable.
Dial tone is ok in the phone handset.( not an engaged tone )
The problems are - Error 676, phone line busy,( even in dead of night )
Then may be after 30-40 trials - Error 686, remote comp not responded.
Again after severel trial, may or may not connect.
If connected at all, frequently disconnected in no time, may be 10 - 30 mnts after.
I contacted the SDO of my exchange.
He took my the modem and returned, saying he has configured my user name and PW on the modem itself & it is OK now.
On his suggestion, also, I tried after deleteing the cable-net software & disconnecting the wire totally.
    But the problem continues.
My feeling, these Telefone gentlemen are also not sure, what they are looking.

Some kind hearted man/woman, plz help.

    With warm regards to everybody.

    Dr. P.K.Roy.

    check your modem settings here----
    BSNL BROADBAND MAIN MENU
you have siemens SL2_141 i think because siemens c2110 is not wireless.
also in your modem settings in overview-->advanced tab see SNR values & Line Attn values.SNR values must be above 10 & LIne Attn values must be below 35.connected standard must be G.dmt.

    Dear Whitestar,
Thank you very much for the suggestion.
Let me try this & will let you know.

Yes, indeed it is the SL2_141.
But I am not sure where to look for the modem setting & overview!
Excuse me for my utter ignorance about it.
    regards.

    SL2_141 ADSL MODEM (Type-B) MENU

type 192.168.1.1 in your browser & enter username/password as admin/admin to open modem settings page.

I have tried this earlier & even now, but failed to enter.
Anyway, only this evening, BSNL people came & fixed it.
As I understood, they put IP & DNS no.

But, thank you very much for the interest you took on this.

OK!your problem is solved for now but still try to learn how to configure modem because it's always better to be prepared on your own rather than depending on others.as i understand it you should be able to enter modem settings using admin/admin & 192.168.1.1.i think by putting IP bsnl people made some changes to your LAN TCP/IP properties & now you connect to net by double clicking a shortcut or connect to option in windows, right?
