Rep Power: 0 | Thanks for welcoming me into the forum. I have recently applied for BSNL broadband Home 500 C plan. And I opted for customer owned modem, instead of bsnl provided. I want a modem = Type II modem of bsnl. (Ethernet and Wi-Fi) I would appreciate some pointer in this regard. What brand and model modems would suit my purpose. Thanks again. Regards, Prathip |

Rep Power: 5 | You can use any ADSL2+ complaint modem with built-in Wi-fi router. But in my opinion, you should opt for BSNL's Type IV router for the following reasons: - Type II modem is one ethernet + wifi whereas Type IV has 4 ethernet ports and wifi - At Rs. 1800/- BSNL's Type IV modem is damn cheap; similar featured modems (but from more reputed companies) will cost twice as much in market. (BSNL generally supplies UTStarCom's WA2000v4 or Siemens SL2-141.) - If there is a problem with connections BSNL may blame your modem for nothing (big issue) and they will certainly refuse any help with the configuration (not a big issue). Advantage of the market modem is that its firmware is complete and has full port forwarding and port triggering options. BSNL's modem has reduced firmware and they are no more supported by their OEM. But if you wish to go for market modem, I suggest Netgear or Linksys brands. I do not have the exact model numbers but a visit on their site should give you the same. Check on eBay for prices.

| is on leave | yes i agree with kix, u should go foe bsnls type 4 modem, why? 1. its cheap compared to the market ones and even to the type 3 2. once u get to know the modem, u will be able to decide why u want to buy a branded one.

In my circle (chennai), they only Type I and Type II. 3 and 4 are not in stock. That's why I thought I will buy kinda of Type IV from branded one. I think with these considerations, I should go back to BSNL and opt for Type II modem. Thanks again. Regards, Prathip | |
