    Default sharing BSNL using switch

    Hi all

i am using a BSNL broadband connection thru modem
Right now its running on one machine which has 2 lan cards. One fo rthe BSNl connection and one for LOCal networking
I am using a 8 port switch for my local lan and i have 3 PCs right now

i want to share this connection so that i am able to access internet on all machines. what i tried was instead of putting the lan cable that is connected to the modem on one side in my PC i have plugged it into the switch. Now i am still able to dial up my connection on this PC and use internet on this one but remaining 2 PCs still cant access the internet

what needs to be done.after putting the ethernet cable in the switch, if i install the dialup connection like the first PC on each of the PCs then i am able to dial up the BSNL connection but then again internet can be dialled only From 1 PC at a time and used. what i want is dialling shud happen on 1 PC and the remaining shud be able to share it over LAn using switch

Have researched on the net quite a bit and also tried following the process carefully but i am not able to get it to work in any way

    Please help

    Thanks

Please read the "SOHO Guide" in the "Broadband How To" section plus other guides posted there. Refer the 'Sticky' post there first.

It will be better to switch to PPPoE mode for internet connections to be shared simultaneously between PCs.

now my host PC is showing 2 connections
one is LOCAl Network and other is the connect i just dialled that is the BSNL dialler

    which shud have ICS enabled?
right now i have enabled it for BSNL dialler connection

i just went thru the SOHO guide also
in that i was going thru the SWITCH type of network
they have mentioned to plug the ADSL lan cable to the IN port of the switch a the other lan cables of PCS to the OUT ports but nothing like this is mentioned on my D LINk switch it has 8 ports numbered from 1 - 8.

Also it is written that modem should run in PPpoe mode but around 2 weeks back My BSNL stopped worked and it started giving error 676 " the phone line is busy ". so the guys from BSNL said that its a problem from backhaul and u need to changes ur modem mode to BRidging by going to 192.168.1.1 .after that it was working fine. so switching to PPPoe mode can again result in my net not working.

    so what shud i do?

BSNL site now advises consumers to configure their modem in pppoe mode only to avoid error 676,678 & 691.you should not be so sure that configuring modem in pppoe mode won't work just because local BSNL guys said so.every switch has an IN port.it should be a bit different from the 8 ports.look carefully.

Connect the LAN output of modem/router to any port (1~ 8) of the DLink switch.
