Thread: YouTube blocked in BSNL ?

Today I am not able to access youtube using BSNL broadband. It is getting redirected to a page with this messsage
"The site you have chosen has been categorized as: Criminal Skills


Contact your Internet administrator if you require access to this site."

It is same for any youtube video.

I do not think YouTube is banned in BSNL. But certain sections could be.

just now they have corrected it. I think while trying to block one video they blocked all videos

BSNL don't block any sites.check the settings of your antivirus/anti-adware/anti-spyware/IE policies.you are not using trend micro/mcafee/norton internet secirity AV by any chance because sometimes they block certain sites giving such messages.

Yes, I second Whitestar. It is definitely some application on your system and nothing to do with youtube blocking by BSNL. If BSNL blocks something, it will come in the papers. Example would be the blogging sites being blocked....ringabell?

Again, bsnl has started blocking. I think it not me alone see this thread

it happened for a while yesterday.. then from today morning am not able to access.. customer service dont even know what am talking about. right now am just using another workaround to view videos but its damn painful and streaming is really really slow.

and i dont have any problems with firewall and anti-virus programs settings.

I noticed it today morning.
Any help appreciated.
But it works in my connection at the office.

Youtube.com works perfectly fine for me. Maybe, its the indian version of Youtube, which you are using is having some problem since its relatively new website division of Youtube.

new users including myself having IP 117.x.x.x are not having any problems with youtube but only old customers with IP 59.x.x.x i think.also netsweeper is a web filtering software used by corporations so it may be possible that BSNL is indeed using it on their older network maybe to test something.

I got BSNL recently and my IP is 117.x.x.x . I think they have installed netsweeper only in some regions.

you may be right.for now i am having no problems with youtube.let's wait & see.

Temperory work around is to change the URL to uk.youtube.com

just change the domain to worldwide (all).. the option is on the top left hand corner.
the default will be www after you've done the change.

I have two bsnl connections in my house both are with 117.xxxx ip add.
The computer I am typing with automatically redirects to indian version of youtube from either connections and gets blocked
with the address h tt p- 172.30.3.54/webadmin/deny/index.php?dpid=1&cat=4&ttl=-100&groupname=blah blah

and the contents say

Change your domain to worldwide(All).

Its a problem with in.youtube.com.
Try this...uk.youtube.com

are you people sure that its a problem with youtube.com coz as i checked it here and its working really fine for me without any problem at all...

I am on sify broadband and youtube is running fine .. if bsnl is blocking then every isp must have got the same instructions from the information and broadcast ministry and customers of all other isps would also have been seeing the same problem.

I am sure its some other issue.

ya it may be a BSNL network issue... i agree with admin.. coz its really not possible that BSNL is blocking different sites as BSNL users are saying...

like filehost.com
now this youtube.com

please check it with BSNL once that if they are blocking any ports or something... coz if BSNL can keep ports open for p2p traffic then they will not block online streaming ports..

what do you think about it...

i've no idea as to why only the Indian domain is not working, might be a problem at BSNL rather than youtube, cuz that Netware thingy is used by ISP's not sites like youtube. i dont think it makes a big difference if we are not able to view the in.youtube.com . hope they fix it though.

and if someone is not able to get any workarounds, try this - i was using this before i figured out..
1. copy link location from youtube.
2. goto w w w.downloadyoutubevideos.c o m
3. paste link
4. it'll embed the video in same window, you can view video there.
* also a great site to download youtube videos..

edit : Indian domain is working for me now.

i dont think this will work if there is a problem with any domain coz the actual data is still there on the main domain and if that is blocking traffic or something then it will not work.. but still you people can try this...
