Default High Upload Volume.. what might be the problem?

    Hi All,
While checking my usage last week, I noticed my upload volume was nearly 1800MB while my download volume was roughly 400 MB. Of course this is not unusual if you do some upload but I am sure during this period I have not uploaded anything of high volume consciously. I scanned my system with Norton and it could not find any infostealer or anything like that. Now my questions are
    1. Can this happen due to any virus attack?
    2. What may be the solution?

Waiting for someone's helpful reply, Thanking you!

    Regards,
    Asmita.

As vishnus89 suggested above that if you use torrents that might be the cause if you dont restrict the upload speed.

If you use a client like Limewire, Ares, Kazzaa or anything similar that might be the cause.

If none of the above is true please try running ad-aware which can be downloaded from here : Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft

You can download the free version .. Run it and see if you find anything.

    @Vishnu and Administrator,

Thanks for your suggestion. Now I am trying to run the ad-ware and let you know what happens. But I don't use any torrent client. When I try to download anything using torrent i prefer to torrent it directly and my 'download manager' (Free Download Manager, fdmtest - as it is called) does that automatically. One more thing: Before having this high colume of upload, i visited Youtube previous day. Can that leave any problem? Thank you once again..

    Regards,
    Asmita

yeah thats right! if you ever downloaded anything from torrents then might be seeding i.e. they are being uploaded

Yes, Ad-Aware will definitely find, if the cause is a virus (adware, spyware, etc). It also allows free updates. But the problem is they don't give a realtime scanner in freeware version. I need to scan the computer every week(to keep it clean).
You should use the free version of Zone Alarm Firewall too. It won't stop viruses (I don't think it will) but it will stop unknown or unwanted connections from or to your computer. My trusty Avast never failed me yet. It user little memory too.

Visiting Youtube wont make any difference in your upload statistics(Unless you upload videos).
And I was asking you whether you use bittorrent technology to download stuff not the Bittorrent client(sorry for confusing you). The torrents will upload (seed) the data you downloaded.
