Default Which mode is ur modem in : ADSL2+ or G.Dmt?

Which mode have you set your modem to ADSL2+ or G.Dmt? I have UTstarcom WA3002G4(type 4). I changed the mode to G.Dmt from ADSL2+. I saw 2 db improvement in downstream SNR value after saving settings. When I manually switched off the modem and switched it back on the mode had reverted to ADSL2+. Is this a fault in the modem or a fault in this model of utstarcom. Are u experiencing this? By the way my upstream SNR value is always above 23 db and is greater than my downstream SNR value. Is it fine?

The reason why you see the modem switch back to ADSL2 after switching off and on is because previously you changed the mode to G.dmt and clicked on 'Apply' button. This does not save the configuration to the flash memory. You must 'Save and Reboot' modem for permanent effect of any configuration change.

G.dmt. But ADSL2+ works for me also. I did not find much difference. whitestar_999 is an expert in these things and he advised G.dmt to me.

some types of modems don't work as well with ADSL2/2+ mode as they with G.dmt mode because BSNL network uses G.dmt mode as default so to be safe it is recommended that you use G.dmt mode.

Right now my downstream SNR margin is 20 dB with ADSL2+. I am happy with it. But most of the time it varies a lot between 10 - 17. maybe because most of the neighbours have BSNL broadband. Should I switch to G.Dmt when my downstream SNR margin is low around 10-15?

I use ASDL2+ in my modem. I don't have any problem with it(yet).

try G.dmt first.only change it if you experience some problem.if currently no problem then you can keep any mode you want.

harsham, i think v have discussed this issue before.
I m using Utstarcom UT300-R2U, provided by mtnl.
BSNL also provides same model.
When u change ur mode to G.DMT, u'll have to go to ADVANCED tab and click on SAVE ROUTER SETTINGS TO FLASH, then a screen will open which will show YOUR MODEM IS REBOOTING, U'LL BE REDIRECTED TO PREVIOUS PAGE, PLEASE WAIT.
Dont close the window or do anything, until fresh window appears.
This is the same window when we type 192.168.1.1 in address bar.

Also G.DMT mode is prone to CRC errors( CRC= Cyclic redundancy check)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check
So ur speed will be reduced little bit, but it'll provide greater stablity to connection compared to ADSL or ADSL2+, u've to decide which one is more suitable for u, U'll learn this after trial and errors.
Try T143 also,
BEST OF LUCK!

yep.. adsl 2+ is the preffered and more advanced mode.. with better allocation of bands but it will suffer problums and disconnections if used over longer distances... basically adsl 2+ will give you more bandwidth like in ranges of 20+mbps and gdmt more like 10+mbps . but as bsnl is always capped at 2 or 8 mbps.. gdmt effectively offers all its customers all the bandwidth they need at more stable speeds.
