    Default Line attenuation

I live 2 km from my local telephone exchange and the downstream attenuation is
45 - 46 db. I have called up BSNL for the past month to get my line checked. They said they are going to fix the cable fault near the exchange. Is it the problem near the exchange or is it with the line extending from the junction box near my house. Should I get the junction box checked and how do they go about the checking process?

It is 46 db. I called BSNL up right now where my nearest local exchange was located. I never knew where I went to pay my bill was the local exchange. It is around 2 km from my house.

    Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin (dB): 20.1 23.0
    Attenuation (dB): 45.5 22.5

So how do these bsnl engineers check for attenuation? I want to know the process involved. Do they replace the cables?

    Then why bother much .....
Its BSNL ......hence don't expect much .....
I dont think BSNL people will work out this problem just for you.
I mean they will need to get a series of complaints regarding this only then i feel they will act .Checking a junction box is not as simple as changing all the cabling. And just for one request they will not change the cables .....
