Thread: why is the ping so damn high!!?!!?

Hi folks i have just got a 256k unlimited(750ULP) from bsnl, after getting the modem started just decided to end the day with some good counter strike source. I start the server and geuss what i am getting 250ping, this is pathetic. I got kick out of all the servers even indian ones for having a high ping rate. You must be saying this is bsnl what do u expect?? Well the servers i used to play on had many players who were playing with bsnl connection. The server was located in mumbai, i knew people who were connecting from bangalore, delhi, and many other places who used to get a 60-80 ping.!!!! what the hell is going on!?!??!
I have a feeling that the bsnl's new gateway, which is 117.x.x.x has a problem or is too slow. i have noticed that all new connections are coming with the ip 117 where as the old ones used to 59.x.x.x as a general request can you please check your ipaddress just post you first number is it 59 or 117 then ping the following address
202.63.160.44 and post the ping time too. This is something i am investigating and would really like to get to the bottom of. Thank you for your help.

this sucks mine is 500plan & dl is 385Kb/s & ul is 66Kb/s

I am on sify and I get between 40 to 50.

even i am on sify but dont get anything coz its like network cable unplugged from 2 sep 2008 till now..

I applied for a tata wimax connection today... if it works ok for me I will let you know and yu can switch to tata then... its available all over Delhi according to the guys who came to my place today.

thats a good news and one more thing i was checking about tata that they are also providing upto 2mbps at nite by paying some additional amount..

i really want to go for a new connection now coz this one is already not working from last 7 days now... and i had a word with supervisor at sify care where he promised me a callback day before yesterday.. and till now there is nothing at all not even someone to fix my problem

Even I'm an active Counter-Strike - Condition Zero player... I'm getting latency in between 120-150 on my favorite servers... Earlier I used to get 50-60 too from sify and youtelecom... My ping is 128... I'm using 2mbps

One more problem- After thinking over it, I assumed it may be cuz I was connecting my laptop through wi-fi... I started using LAN cable for internet... but then steam only do not login... It says steam could not connect with servers... I changed back to wi-fi... Plz help...
