Default password change for XAVI X7721r+ modem

    1. i got this modem from TATA indicom,i had to disconnect the connection since TATA is was very expensive for me.

    2. i have reset the modem to factory settings....this thread helped me reconfigure it to dataone settings but i didn't try it yet http://www.indiabroadband.net/tata-i...m-dataone.html (Using XAVi modem with DataOne)
if this wont work i will just take the modem to nearest BSNL office to configure it.

    3. i was told BSNL Dataone broadband is very vulnerable of hacking so i must change the default password,my primary issue is that i want to change the default username and password of this modem but it just wont let me...there is no edit or delete option, making a new user is waste because the hacker will probably guess the default username and password

is there a alternate way to change it? am i secure enough if i let it be default? i don't want to lose any private data from my computer....or get a 50,000 bill lol

i have read this article and found out how easy it is to get hacked
The Enlightened: Hack Bsnl Broadband Accounts

i want to apply the following settings on the modem

    1. Use RFC Bridged mode if it is sufficient for you.

    2. Change the default admin password of your modem.

    3. Disable wan ping reply . ( this will prevent the hackers from directly discovering your pc when it is on the internet)

    4. Disable remote configuration feature.
if not,can i configure it safe enough? please advice

last resort is getting a new modem that i soooo don't want to do

default modem password is dangerous only when modem is set in pppoe/always on mode because in this mode you have to store your BSNL username/password in the modem & anyone can access your modem using default admin account & then in connection settings can find out your BSNL username/password.however if you use bridge mode then your BSNL username/password will be in your computer & so even if someone access your modem he won't find anything useful.at best he can change some settings in your modem but then it will be of no use to him.

PS--look more carefully inside modem settings.there should be some option to change password.try telnet.

Post Device status page screen shot or
the menu page. All modems have a menu to change the password.
look for a similar page. ( access control )

i have checked every setting,as the snap shows it wont let me edit or delete the admin user.

i guess then you have to configure your modem in bridge mode.just install a good antivirus/firewall software(i prefer kaspersky or nod32)& bridge mode will be as good as pppoe mode.

maybe if you create a new user, then you may get the option of deleting the admin user.. you are not allowed to delete admin account now because thatrs the only account available..

still waiting for screenshot of the DEVICE status page.
    or try 192.168.1.1/main.html or menu.html or home.html or index.html
    for more Advanced options.
