Thanks Admin....
The speed is different in different area in chennai... Chennai Telephones-Provision of Data Services on CDMA 2000 IX using NIC / EVDO cards- BTS Locations

In my area its only 144 Kbps
If it was around 2.4 Mbps...i would have gone for it...
I would have got rid of all those wires....no low SNR value problems....

Dude 144 KBps is awesome for a data card in India... Reliance, Tata indicom don't give more than 15-20KBps... And u won't get 2 MBps anyway even if u have normal wired broadband...

I think he meant 144kbps and not 144kBps.

If we get 144kBps unlimited at less then Rs1000 a month it would be great

I meant 144Kbps speed.
They (BSNL) are saying "upto 144Kbps speed".
which means it will be less than 144Kbps.
& anyhthing less than 144Kbps speed & paying around 500 is not worth.

Datacard might be useful for those who travel very frequently.

  • GPRS gives u a bullshit speed... 1-10 kBps...comparable to ancient dial-up..
  • Data-Card or evdo will give ya speed anywhr in between 10-20 kBps so good for browsing...
  • Broadband through landline will give you high speeds ranging from ~16 to 200kBps(its getting higher day by day) depending upon the plan you choose.. Its good for downloading large files.

In lay man terms Datacard/EVDO will catch signal anywhere the operator's signal for its mobile services are available... For example, If I'm travelling in a train with my Reliance handset and datacard... My datacard's signal n performance will be as good as my handset... i.e., normally good near a railway station but bad or no signal in remote areas...

Hope I answered ur query well...

I have used BSNL GPRS and the speed I got was 1-2 KB max. Even when I had full signal strength.
