Default UtstarcomWA3002G4 wireless modem with netgear WG111v3 Adaptor

I use a Utstarcome WA3002G4 wireless modem for BSNL Broadband connection to my old laptop (Toshiba satellite) with a Netgear WG11v3 adaptor. It works fine. But there is no security. Whenever I enable WEP and give a password, the the connection disappears. On the other hand, using my new Dell Inspirion, I am able to enable WEP. What could be the problem? Can anyone throw some light? Thanks.

Try implementing any other type of security such as WPA or any other and then see whether you are able to make it work or not

Better to use/try. WPA as advised by @player, for better security.

i advice you first thing not to use wireless without security coz it may put you in trouble and others can easily connect to your network anytime, if you netgear wg11v3 is not connecting with WEP security then just try to config it with the WEP security, you can check your user manual for same and if you still face any issues please update can provide a guide to config

    hi,
I have Windows XP Home preinstalled. The other day I found it has updated itself to XP3. It works fine. I followed the steps mentioned in the modem manual, and yes, it configures for the security. However, the adaptor then fails to connect. I'll try to configure for WPA. May be a little later. Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I thought so. Especially with the news about hacking in the wi-fi etc. However, my phone and the modem is sitting in one corner of the house and I can't accommodate the laptop near that. I must sit a wee bit away from the phone. Hence I can't connect the laptop to the modem through cable. It was perfect with the Dell Inspiron. There was no issues. It connected well with the security feature turned on. I am sure I am goofing up with the setting. Have seen anywhere the idiot's guide to setting up wireless modem?

    mine.
1.see similar page or post screenshot.
2.As this is common to both laptops, check whether the security code has been entered properly in Toshiba laptop.
    3. Does Toshiba show available wireless networks . Check with inspiron.
    4. Any entry about Key lifetime ? Increase it .
    5. WA3002G4 settings/menu pages/board etc are almost same as Beetel 440BX1 or 450BX1.
