    Hi,

Dont be so stingy .....The download speed in torrent will also depend on the torrent health (No of seeders , No of Leechers etc)...some torrent sites display the health of each torrent from a scale of 0 to 100% ..

If the file is not in great demand , torrent health will be low and hence your speed will be low

If you want to know the speed of ur connection....Download a software without any download accelarators and torrent clients
using IE or Firefox's default download manager

thanks for ur replies guys....i know about seed, talking about seeds i download files which have over 2000 seeds and even if it has lesser seeds i simultaneously download 4 to 5 torrent files as to use my maximum bandwidth...but still it never shoots over 28kBps ....while i never use any download accelerators for websites it still gives me a good swing between 35-36kBps???

    1.have u portforwarded?
    2.which client ur using?

and dont think u get connected with all 2000seeders as the website shows (site from which u took that torrent)

Your torrent client limits the number of seeders and leachers you can have ...so after hitting max its immaterial how many seeders are present....

Theoretically a 256kbps should give you a max speed of 256/8=32kbps

In a few cases it goes above ......Mainly due to net problems ....But i have heard Bsnl BB complaining that they have experienced low speeds when using torrents ....Pls check those threads

I do not use BSNL so i really dont know

The most effective P2P was Bearflix.

In my opinion if you hit 27-28KBps on a 256 kbps connection then it is alright and asking for more would be a bit unrealistic. The problem with torrents is that it depends on a number of factors which is not true for an http download I dont thing there is anything you can do to get more speeds.

Have you tried using a different port? May be use port 80 for torrents and see if that makes a difference although I dont think it will but its still worth a try and you will be satisfied that yous isp is not throtteling speeds on particular posts.

I use limewire turbo, getting 130-150 KBps
But Limewire has junk files too

Admin, You are right. There is not much we can do about seeds.

    - there may be a lot of seeds but all seeds may not have 100% of the file
    - in torrents we download by getting file pieces and the piece that we are requesting may not be available
    - the seed peer may have restricted the upload speed

Also, Port 80 does not work for torrents. I tried that unsuccessfully.

    Unhappy

thanks guys i tried all the tutorials for my torrent client(utorrent) and for my p2p(emule) and tried to download around 10 files simultaneously....but the speed gets divided between all the 10 files and wont even swing, just remain on 28KBps.

i have done various speed tests from different websites and all of them state my speed more than my allocated bandwidth...276kbps, 286kbps, 301kbps and the upload speed shows around 300kbps..that is why i probably am getting a transfer rate of 35-36kBPS ( form websites)...some times it swings between 35-45kBps.

my upload speed whether on torrents or p2p clients remain the same 24kBps but the download speed wont even swing but remains constant on 28kBps...no matter how many files are active the speed gets divided between them and remain on 28kBps

hmmm..i think even if the torrent seed and leach is good it depends on the location of other users who are downloadin the same file..if somany people from india were givin seed and leach then i think u will get better speed..otherwise the speed will become less i think.i experienced this difference while downloadin file from an indian site and from a foriegn site at the same time..even though foriengn site has good seedin than indian site the download speed will be less..so try to download from sites which indians are using and u will get good speed while downloadin indian movies and all..
