    Default Some sites not opening

I am not able to access/open certain websites

    Connection - bsnl dataone ul750,
    Router/modem - Billion bipac 5200S,
Mtu setting in Vista - 1455 (Current),
    Dns - OpenDns,
    I stay in Bangalore.

Before also i faced such problem, but by some help by the members, i was able to access all sites (which in know). Initially my mtu was 1492 or 1500. I used Tcp optimizer and changed mtu to 1454 and everything was normal. But yesterday again the same problem started, and i am not able to access these sites (there could be others as well)
    microsoft.com
    thepiratebay.org
    yahoo.com
    ubuntu.com
    gmail.com

Bsnl gave me UtStarcom UT300R2U router wich initially worked correctly but later on also gave same problem and after some days it was not able to save the settings (username/password, etc) i.e whenever i did save/ save&reboot itwould reset all the settings so it became useless. Since from my previous tata connection i was having billion 5200S so i am using this. Other than the sites not opening issue, the outer is working correctly.

    i have already tried these mtu settings, 1452, 1454, 1455*, 1492, 1500.
Google.com works with these mtu sett.
Using current i am able open cisco.com (before no)

I tried some testing on some websites with this program mturoute -
    elifulkerson.com/projects/mturoute.php]mturoute.exe
And since i was getting 1455 as maximum mtu for most websites, so its 1455 now.
One more problem is i am not able to access many websites in Google Chrome which are working in firefox. Before, Chrome was perfectly on all sites.

    Please help me...

In the modem settings, go to DNS settings and change to open DNS as follows:

    Primary: 208.67.222.222
    Secondary: 208.67.220.220

    And also try this:

go to start > run > type in cmd and enter

    now type in this:

    ipconfig /flushdns

Then hit enter and now close the command window and try opening the sites mentioned above with the dns settings provided by Just4kix above

    It should work

And dont forget to leave a comment here if it worked or otherwise

just4kix, I am already using OpenDns. And after posting the problem, i also changed my vista's mtu to 1454 using tcp optimizer. Admin as u suggested i flushed dns, but still it does'nt work. i am not able to open IBNLive as ensine said.
Atleast thanks everyone for replying and for help, since after almost 1 hour or so there were no replies! i don't know what to do now.

Okay now everthing is working alright. i did not do anything except flushing the dns and wandering around this website. maybe dns flushing worked out. it probably takes time. Or the problem rectified by bsnl. Anyway thanks everyone and specially Admin for flushing command. i have saved the command for later reference!

I don't think it was a dns problem. Flushing helps only if it is dns problem. I think there was some problem in some nodes in the internet network and they are now rectified.

In dns setting enter first one as the dns provided by bsnl and second one an open dns ip.. This should solve this issue.

Sorry 4 da late reply. I assume windows Xp/Vista (2000?). if it hasn't been solved try clearing dns cache by using 'ipconfig /flushdns' command in cmd prompt, as Admin suggested. Type 'control netconnections' in run dialog, to get various connections you have, open 'Local Area Coonection' (name may differ), open up 'internet protocol version 4' dialog and select option 'use the following dns server addresses' and type both dns addresses here and click ok.

    OpenDNS addresses are -
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

Instead of changing these settings in windows, use can change these settings in ur modem itself, so all operating systems would use those conf.
This is client-side only solution. But i think problem is with bsnl servers itself. Since, yesterday again same problem occured here but today net is working fine. Hope tht helps.

    Hey just4kix,

Thanks man. I was having similar issues as well, and this 'fix' seems to have worked.

    Thanks.

Those values are values for OpenDNS. Google it and you will find more details.
