Default MT882 cross over cable LAN

Can I configure a network with my old desktop and new laptop using a cross over cable and MT882. I dont want to purchase a type II modem nor a wireless router. I need to set up this connection only for few months so i dont want to spend money.
Thanks in Advance.

using a cross over cable to laptop

see diagram 6 also.

You need another ethernet card ( Rs 1000 approx) + cost of cross over cable.
Para two:
use the USB port for Desktop and LANport for Laptop.
Usb drivers for MT882 to be downloaded to say C:/MT882.
(Google search : mt882 usb drivers)
Then connect the usb cable to computer and start. Let windows detect new hardware and ask for drivers. follow instructions.
( Remove the LAN port/ethernet connection and connect to Laptop)

Only one USB port in desktop used for connecting to modemUSB port. Cable is different.
The other USB ports in Desktop can be used for Keyboard/mouse/camera/ memory stick etc. Please give feeedback.

Thumbs up

Thank you ...

I have just gone through the document, I connect the desktop to the BSNL modem using a USB and the LAN port of my desktop to the LAN port of my Laptop using a crossover cable, the problem is that when I try to configure my desktop it does not give me this following option as said :

www(dot)hardwaresecrets(dot)com/fullimage.php?image=6512

( Forum not allowing my to post a link)

But you will find that MT882 gets installed (using USB driver) as a virtual LAN card ( i think ), so I think I am getting that option. I again thought of connecting my Laptop and desktop with a usb-usb network cable, and using the LAN as connecting to my modem. Please comment on my thought.
