Default How to connect your i-phone on Wireless router (ZXDSL 531B)

    Hi Guys,

I just joined this forum today because i've just got a BSNL type II wireless router. Now the guy who came to set it up did a fine job on my laptop. it works just fine, no problem. but i could not get my i-phone to connect no matter how much i try. It finds the access point, shows me that the wifi is enabled on iphone but i cant open any webpages.

After spending couple of hours on this forum and reading pretty much everything on BSNL connections i have managed to make it work. I am really thankful to guys like just4kix who has posted some very good threads and made it possible for me to get my iphone connected.

so here is my configuration. I have a wireless ADSL router from BSNL (ZXDSL 531B) a dell laptop and an iphone. i have no other PC nor have i made any wired connection. now as i said the laptop connects very easily. i just need to use the login utility and put my username and password and i get going.

My understanding is that the following will work just fine not only for iphone but for other laptops as well.

you can not connect more than one device because your router is under bridge mode. that means everytime u turn your PC/laptop on, you will have to log-in using the utility. to enable multiple laptops/PCs/PDA/Wifi Devices you need to change this to PPPOE. to do this follow these steps

1.)type in 192.168.1.1 in your browser
2.)when it asks for user name and password, type in "admin" in both
3.)click on advance setup on the left panel
4.)you will see a table with five rows
5.)click on edit on the first row (the one which starts with values 0/35)
6.)on the first screen dont change anything, click next
7.)on second screen select PPP over Ethernet (currently it will be on bridging). click next
8.)on this screen put your BSNL username and password and in the PPPoE Service name box put "PPPoE LLC", authentication method is auto.leave everything as it is. click next
9.)on this screen tick Enable NAT, leave everything as it is and click next.
    10.) save everything

Now go to LAN in advanced setup and make sure DHCP Server is enabled. if not - enable it and leave all the values as it is.

Now save and reboot your router. close all open windows. Wait for two minutes

Now if you have done everything correctly, after two minutes you internet will be on and you can surf the web. Note that you will not be asked to put username/ password anymore. if you have reached this far, it means you have just enabled multiple device support.

Check your iphone, select your acesspoint. and dont change anything under settings. it should be working.

This has worked for me. if there are any glitches i will post here. if anyone fails to get theirs working, please let me know.

    thanks

You have hit the nail on the head with the DHCP issue.

For some reason many people turn off DHCP on their routers. I fail to understand why. DHCP is a very useful service to have and it is a must for all mobile Wi-Fi because in mobile wi-fi, it is almost impossible to assign IP address to the device manually.
