Thread: My topology-- Please need suggestions

This is home setup!!!

The router has a speed of 2Mbps and the hub is a 10Mbps speed device. the thing is that when i download anything i get only like 25-30kb of download.... even when iam logged on to one comp... is the download speed correct... coz i was thinking that with this speed i shuld be getting more download speed.

Please let me know if things are right. I was plannin to change the hub to a switch but iam not sure would that really help is speeding up my downloads. I can understand for torrents coz it depends on the seeds but as for other downloads are concerened i suld get more speed right

On a 2mbps speed connection I would expect a speed of more then 200KBps. Your setup is alright and I dont see any problem with that.

You can try connecting just one computer and take out the hub to test it out and see if this hub is creating a bottle neck which is very unlikely but its good to check all posibilities one by one.

Where were you downloading from when you checked your speed?

Have you tried downloading anything from rapidshare.. they have good upload speeds and are a good place to check your connection speed.

Thank you for your reply!!!! Yes i do all my downloads from Rapidshare!!! so that s the time i usually have checked the speed i think i shud try with the hub situation as well!!! or maybe a virus cud be the problem as well.

Any other suggestion let me know !!!
