Default Problem connecting using ethernet port

Right now, i am connecting to internet using usb port, which is perfectly alright. When i tried to connect using my ethernet its not working. When i ping it replies.
Below are the details from my ipconfig........

    connection-specific DNS suffix:
    IP address....................: 192.168.1.10
    subnet Mask...................: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway...............: 192.168.1.1

But,both telnet and the modem/router web interface is not working.
I just need to check up with the ethernet port so that i can proceed to setup a lan.

    4. deleted.
5.In the modem select DHCP enabled . Give range as 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.20.
    6. In TCP/IP properties select Obtain IP address automatically.
    7. Do not connect both USB/LAN cables to SAME computer. at the same time. use only one.

Assign a static IP first, to do that do the following

1.) Go to control panel and double click on network connections
2.) Right click on the LAN icon and click properties
3.) Then browse in the column which appears and select TCP/IP
4.) Double click on TCP/IP and select use the following IP address and enter the following

    IP address: 192.168.1.(any no. b/w 2 to 254)
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

    Primary DNS: 208.67.220.220
    Sec. DNS: 208.67.222.222

click ok and then try to access the modem config. page through the web browser by typing
    192.168.1.1

In status you get some Ips. If you select "support", you get details of Ips dns etc.
    Give the info here. OR
    2. Start RUn type CMD type ipconfig/all post details here.
This is to confirm whether you have enabled DHCP or not and for other details like DNS etc.

you have set ip address of pc as 192.168.1.1 .. which is wrong as this is the router's ip.. set the pc's ip as 192.168.1.10 .. and gateway as 192.168.1.1

oh Now, I understand. I changed my ip address to 192.168.1.10 and i pinged it worked.
But, if i ping 192.168.1.1 it says request timed out.
So, I think there is a problem with my nic. But i checked with my device manager and its alright.
Is there anything that i can do with this.........

Any way thanks all of you for your kind replies

1.Now how do you connect to Internet ? USB port or LAN port ?
2.Tried updating driver/s for your ethernet card ?
    3. Go to filehippo.com. download program update drivers.
    4. run the program and see which update/s are recommended.
    5. then go to manufacturer's web site and download the latest drivers.
    6. The web site also has many free downloads.

your nic is ok if pinging to 192.168.1.10. If not pinging to 192.168.1.1 then there must be problem with the LAN cable or with its contacts. try resetting the modem by pressing and holding the reset button at the back of the modem for 10 sec and then try pinging

    @comedy_tigers88
i disable the usb and reset the modem
    Should not reset the modem.
Go to Start/Network/LAN/ enable if disabled.
For USB connection another Icon will appear.
    Para two:
In TCP/IP properties Page on the top your ethernet card is listed.
Click configure and proceed further. If disabled enable it.

    problem almost solved...
i bought a new lan card for 135rs and set it to your settings. Now it is working properly. I am also able to share the connections between two computers using pppoe mode.

Now if i want to connect third computer, do i need to go for a switch or a router(wired). Can you please specify the price range, because when i went to buy a lan card they told me the first rate as 300 and i bargained it up to 135 without knowing the exact price. And now I think, i should have reduced the price........
