TATA Photon is also EVDO. "Photon" is the brand name and "EVDO" is the technology.

WEW, much replies:4: nice... Well i recontacted BSNL EVDO customer care.. i got this reply: -> BSNL EVDO Device cost :3200/- [buy/rent]

-> Security deposit :1000/- [refundable on completion of minimum hiring period, depends on plan selected] payable in first month bill

-> 550/- is minimum and its UL plan

-> BSNL EVDO works in all Metropolitian Cities, well it works in all places of Bangalore...

-> They got no idea about EVDO tower installation in Bangalore locations, but they can say all is that it works with normal BSNL towers..

-> For any fault either in device or service, you will need to contact your nearest customer service center or the office you brought the device...

-> Service in device/network takes time depending on technical team availablity and it can take like days to weeks...

-> Speed assured 2.1 MBPS, but the real speed depends upon multiple factors so they say we can assure the speed but not quality

These were the replies from them....

    guys i have a doubt,

Will EVDO work woth torrents (port block problem).

As i checked a EVDO card in BSNL office itself and there i installed BitComet and saw that it was showing port blocked.
BSNL officer who was giving the demo told that thats not an issue we will request and open up that port if you want it ( I dont know or tried how true is that). So if it is really blocked & BSNL people cant open it up, then can we use some portforwarding tech and forward the port ?

I think the torrents issue is fixed. sb21pro had a post on that. It seems from May it is working fine.

and yeah i forgot to mention that u ll get speed up to 2.4mbps while tata photon+ (not photon) and relience broadband+(not relience netconect) offers 3.1 mbps speed, so u cn guess which 1 ll get u batter speed. but remember tata and relience both not ofering unlimited plan. relience offers 10GB plan. and its costly than bsnl. if u have any other dought, fell free to typ here. chears hapy rakhsabandhan in advance!!!!
well very intuitive indeed but I don't understand the term that evdo offers roaming with 650/month plan - does that mean it's available in areas where no evdo tower has been installed ? I live in Muzaffarpur, Bihar state and here is no such evdo tower so will I be blessed with evdo speed? Please specify me in detail I'm in great hurry to buy one of these Tata Photon+,Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ or bsnkl evdo

That is a old plan. Now it costs Rs650 UL.
If your taking the modem on rental basis you have to pay Rs1000 as a deposit.
And a monthly rental of Rs200 for modem. So total you have to pay Rs850 per month.
This was the information given by customer service center people whom I met in person.
The people at the customer care helpline number gave wrong(outdated) information that UL plan costs Rs550.

About the price pcmcia type of evdo costs Rs2100.
    USB type costs Rs3500.

Yes, but they also charge installation charges
it is always better to go for EVDO on rent, check out the performance, especially at your home, and then plan about buying it.

No,the person at customrer centre did not say anything about installation charges.Although he mentioned about the activaton charge of Rs.500 .Yes that is why I am planning to take the card on rent .But still have to pay 3 months rent(minimum hire period).
