    Default EVDO need Help

    Hi there,

Right now i am on BSNL BB [Home 250] plan, i am happy regarding the speed, but i am not satisfied with them due to frequent disconnection in the internet service, since this issue i am buying BSNL EVDO, so both the connection will be there but will not be clubed with normal BSNL+BB bill.
I am having some queries regarding BSNL EVDO, I hope you will reply to them:

    1) How much EVDO cost?
    2) IS EVDO an NIC Card or an equipment like WLL?
    3) How is the speed? / What speed can be expected? [I am from Bangalore]
    4) Are there any frequent disconnections?
    5) How much does [UL Plan] cost ?
    6) Can the Bill be obtained in email than normal paper billing?
    7) Does it support gaming?
    8) In comparison to Tata's Photon+ and BSNL EVDO, which stands in a better position?
    9) What are all the documents required to buy EVDO [thinking in the prospect of a new customer]?
    10) Is there any minimum hire period, if so how many months?
    11) Is there any security deposit? If so how much?
    12) In how many days the connection can be expected?
    13) If any fault occurs, whats the customer care number and in what period of time the case resolved?

    Thanks for the reply just4kix.

Oh! Man is it that costly [21k] and per month 1.5k.

I thought it would cost somewhere around 500/- and for UL plan it will be below 1k, but its more higher than my expectation, clear me if i am wrong...

Honestly, I have no idea about EVDO. But there are some members here who have a fair knowledge.

    Default BSNL Cheating

    Hi Ppl
After checking the offer for EDVO card for Rs.2100.

I checked to the BSNL Customer care in vellore.but they told there is no such offer and the cost of EDVO card is Rs.4200.

I think BSNL is really cheating Us.

    Smile Amit ur questions reply

    AMIT,
iam from chennai and all cost and that are same i think so.

    answers
    1) bsnl evdo costs 2100 but currently they are giving rent based only.
    2) nic card is different than evdo , evdo is a usb modem its wireless broadband.nic cards capacity is 144kbps but evdo's capacity is 2.4mbps
    3) before buying u should check whether ur area has cdma tower or evdo tower if ur area has evdo tower then u will get upto 2.4mbps but what ever speed u will get u will be satisfied as its constant and if cdma then 144kbps and remeber it will be constant if u get 5bars or 4bars signal full 144kbps.
    4) Till now no disconnection, it happens only if u get too low signal but if u get even 3 bar signal then not even once it will disconnect.
    5) if cdma plan thats 144kbps then 250 plus rent and if evdo then 550 plus rent. and its unlimited, if u want romming then only 100 rs more u have to spend.
    6) that i cannot properly mention.
    7) does it support gaming means? although u can play online games very well even multiplayer online game.
    8) if u are in a evdo network area then bsnl evdo is lots lots more better than photon even better than reliance netconnect because its unlimited plus good speed.
    9) i dont remeber properly but u require a resident proof. or driving licence.
    10) till now they are giving evdo on rent only.
    11) security deposit 1000 and its refundable.
    12) connection will be activated on same day if the office is not busy otherwise the next day.
    13) if any fault occurs then u should contact from where u bought. customer care office.

hi amit i m using evdo in gujarat.and i m satisfied. 550/moth for unlimited plan and there is no such thing as limited plan!, device prize is 4200/ if u dnt wana buy u can take it on rent, 200/month. my advice is take it on rent coz u dnt knw wat speed u ll get with evdo coz its very depends on signal strenth and spectrum usases like in night u ll get batter speed. i m getting arrond 100KBps max with idm(internet download manager) at 3am to 6am. minimum hire perioud is 3month. now bsnl evdo offers roaming with 650/month plan, so there is no issue of evdo tower or cdma tower! may b new custemor ll b charged 650/month by default. but ll get four state roaming free as well as. so go 4 rent evdo.happy browsing!!!!!!!! hope this ll b useful for u.

and yeah i forgot to mention that u ll get speed up to 2.4mbps while tata photon+ (not photon) and relience broadband+(not relience netconect) offers 3.1 mbps speed, so u cn guess which 1 ll get u batter speed. but remember tata and relience both not ofering unlimited plan. relience offers 10GB plan. and its costly than bsnl. if u have any other dought, fell free to typ here. chears hapy rakhsabandhan in advance!!!!

    Thanks for your reply guys,
I am yet wondering how much does it cost, as the local exchange is not providing no proper responce and not even Bangalore telecom website has got no information relating to this.

All they say to visit the nearest customer service center, when i go they make me wait like hours and then, kindly visit the next day, not even "D" has got proper information relating to this/...

The modem costs rs2100 ,but like the previous user said its given under a rental plan .... if you have coverage in your area this is the best possible connection ... unlimited download for rs 550 / 2.4mbps

    Hi Amit,

I just checked out that link. The apparent cost of 21k is for an EVDO router(similar to ADSL router). That means, it's a router with built-in EVDO modem (and I guess, that makes it ALWAYS ON). You can connect to it just as you would connect to a router using an ethernet(RJ45) cable and you are done. You don't need to do any extra work(No drivers, no client software installations!!!). Just switch it on and you would be connected to internet. If the router has a WiFi access point, you can even connectyour laptop(although I would suggest you to secure your WiFi channel or else anyone can abuse it).

Regarding gaming, I will never suggest a wireless connection for gaming. Blame it to the high latency. In a MMORPG, I used to play, a Broadband connection used to give me 75ms ping while EVDO gave 400ms and it can even jump to 4000 ms. And sometimes, EVDO loses signals(I never found out the cause behind it but it still happens) and in a PVP, that would be the worst thing to happen.

    Hope this helps.

the 2.4mbps modem is rs 2100 i believe .... Tata photon and Reliance BB+ have a 3.1mbps modem (Evdo Rev A) and it costs rs3500 with no activation charges at all ... u may want to recheck the prices again ... especially activation charges

    No.
EVDO is the next stage of wireless CDMA technology. So having a EVDO enabled tower within 3-4 KM is a must.

it can run on CDMA 1.x ....its backward compatible ..... I have tried it and further you can check their site (Reliance) it clearly states that where there are no Evdo towers it will run on CDMA 1.x

    @Kiran and Mickey

The question is if there are NO EVDO TOWERS will it still connect and if so what is the expected speed

its supposed to be around 153-200kbps .... But realistically you can expect to get atleast dial up speed ... yeah depending on the area you may get slightly higher speed (but less than 256kbps)

EVDO is backward compatible with CDMA 1x. but then it would no longer be EVDO.

BSNL uses EVDO Rev.0 as against EVDO Rev.A used by Reliance
on EVDO speeds would be upto 2 mbps (realistically around 1 mbps)
on CDMA 1x speeds would be upto 155 kpbs (realistically around 80-90 kbps)

I dont think you understand what you posted .... Evdo Rev A gives you a max speed of 3.1mbps not 2mbps .... Rev 0 gives you a max speed of 2.45 mbps (BSNL Evdo) ..realistically as you mentioned much lower

His question was will the device work where there is no tower ... The answer is yes it will work on the CDMA 1.x network ... you dont need the Evdo tower for the device to work

    Its Speed is above those.
Its a CDMA technology and not GPRS.
And btw be carefull, if EVDO isn't supported by your locality tower, it won't work at all.
Its not like it will start to work like NIC card

the speed quoted was with reference to BSNL EVDO. Missed a punctuation in between, so meaning may not have been conveyed fully.

If EVDO tower is not there, the device would work on CDMA 1x (i.e. like NIC card). I have personally seen this for both BSNL and Reliance EVDO data cards.

If you have used Tata Plug2Surf whiz or Reliance Netconnect (not Netconnect Broadband+) you ll know that cdma 1.x will give you speeds that are just a few kbps faster than dial up
