Thread: help urgently required for BSNL EVDO

I am planninng to buy bsnl evdo connection this is for all gurus of this forum that my main priority is to download torrents can any one tell is it good for downloading torrents if yes what is the speed achieved

It depends on your area, if you stay with in 3 to 4 kilometers from the BSNL tower you will get really good speed (from400 kbps to 1.3 mbps) .so check with you local BSNL exchange.

I am not sure if you can do port-forwarding.
also check if your area hai EVDO tower or something like that cauz i have seen those not havin such , get speed of 144kbps.

Disadvantages of EVDO:-

1. Several Users have the same IP Address(Static IP) - so you cannot download from Rapidshare, Megaupload etc.,

2. Port forwarding is not possible - so you will not get good torrent speeds,

And minimum usage duration is 3 months,

I myself used EVDO for 3 months and the speed was great(around 1MBPS), but the speed mainly depends on the distance from the EVDO tower, if the Tower does not have EVDO then you will get just 144KBPS,

But great speed comes at a cost, i.e no torrents and Rapidshare and similar websites,

Ask your Divisional Engineer to give you a demo and see what speeds are obtained,

But I'd prefer UL750 or H500.
