Thread: Puchasing a bsnl Evdo card

Hi every1,

I am planning to purchase an EVDO card as there is no airtel feasability in my area.I have the following queries:
1. How is the performance of the EVDO card on an avg?
2.I have heard that it has static shared ip. wil this cause any problem when downloading from certain sites. If yes, is thr any solution to overcome this?
3.does the speed depend on the type of tower. If yes, plz name the high speed towers so that i can enquire the same at bsnl office about its presence in my area?

people help me out as I have to decide on this connection fast.

My suggestion would be not to purchase the device as it is a bit expensive, and suppose the device becomes faulty after the warranty is over BSNL will not replace/repair it for you, so you will just have to buy another one,

Get it on rental at Rs.250/- monthly charge,

Also if you buy it and the speed and service is bad you cannot return it,

As for your queries:-

1. How far is your house from the EVDO tower? Perfomence(Speed, connectivity, Signal strength) depends on your distance from the EVDO tower, worst if the tower does not have EVDO capability it will be CDMA 144kbps,
Ask your Divisional Engineer where the tower is and if it has EVDO and ask him to give you a demo and see what speeds you get.

2. Yes it is static IP, so you will 99.99% of the times not be able to download from Rapidshare, Megaupload etc. , unless you try at odd times like 3AM , also port forwarding is not possible so you will not get good speeds in torrents,
