Thread: Caution ( Bug ) for the Micromax MMX 300 C (BSNL) Users.

Hi Guys,

Yesterday, we ( members of another forum ) found some important bug in the Firmware / Drivers of this new Micromax MMX 300C EV-DO modem, supplied by the BSNL.

I am using this modem, for the past 2 and half months. Two days back some of our friends ( in another forum ) complained of very slow speed. Though HSIA signals are full, network connections showed only 153.6 Kbps.

What we found, the bug with the device is....

If you set Auto mode in PC Manager settings, the device will detect the appropriate network [ CDMA 1x or HSIA (EVDO)] and signal will be displayed accordingly ( OK ).

If you set HSIA only mode, it will display HSIA signal but the connection will be in CDMA 1X speed only ( you can check in windows network connections - it will show as 153.6 Kbps ) ( Defect ).

If you set CDMA 1X mode, both signal display and connection will be with CDMA 1X ( OK ).

As I am always keeping my settings, in Auto mode , never experienced any problem. Because of other guys settings in ' HSIA only ' mode, we came across to know the BUG.

I don't know how these BSNL people are mad, in placing orders with Micromax, without even checking the Basic functions.

And what the hell testing center of the company, has done before rolling out the products to BSNL. They have taken it granted for the purchaser being BSNL.

So, it is advisable to keep the settings always in Auto mode, until the Firmware or Drivers update are made.

Since I feel this issue as an important one, I have posted here also.

At last, we the end users have to suffer and do R & D work.

( PC Manager ----> Settings -----> HSIA only / Windows ---> Control panel ---> Network connections ----> BSNL CDMA 2000 Rev A Modem ----> Double click.. )

If you want to confirm the Bug, in your MMX device, after changing the settings to ' HSIA only ' mode, disconnect and connect again, in the PC manager, to witness the bug.

That means i should cancel the programme of buying evdo?
And ya does evdo works on both laptop and desktop?

It works both in Laptop and Desktop without any issues ( don't forget to use a quality USB cable ).

When compared to other brands ZTE and Capitel, Micromax device is the First ( and Good ) choice.

Because, if BSNL supplies ZTE , it is only Rel.0 (2.4Mbps) compatible. In some places, the Capitel device supplied were, due to complaints, replaced with the Micromax device.

Buying and using Micromax is really a good option, because I am having good speeds....

Only caution is, to set it in Auto mode, which has no harm in connecting to CDMA 1X or HSIA ( EVDO ) network, until the bug is fixed.

Not only here, but in any device options, it is wise to have AUTO mode.

I have cautioned because, I have seen many members, unknowingly selected HSIA mode and experienced very slow ( 1x speed ) connection, which we never expected.

Some of my speeds,with Micromax.... 1.68 Mbps ......on 1.4.10

And do model no. also matter in the case of speed?If it matters,then would i be offered a choice from Bsnl pigs?And micromax is the best even from ZTE Corporation?

One request. Pl try to avoid ' quote ' as much as possible, when the previous reply is having huge text and images. Because the same ( HUGE ) text and images are repeated immediately, in the same page. When others are viewing and further replies are added, the page loading will take more memory and time, not only for you but to every body! In unavoidable situation, post can be quoted.

Simply putting Hi xxxxxx Or @ xxxxxx will point to the post to be quoted.

Model no do matters in speed. Because Rel.0 compatible (ZTE AC8700 ) models supports 2.4Mbps D'load speed and 153Kbps Upload speed.

Where as Rev.A compatible cards ( Capitel CE 200, Micromax MMX 300C, Huawei EC1260, Huawei EC 168C, ZTE AC8710 ) support 3.1Mbps d'load speed and 1.8Mbps upload speed )

BSNL has stopped the purchase from ZTE for some security problems, and now purchasing only Capitel and Micromax devices. Other models are supplied by other service providers.

So, the ZTE cards with BSNL are old AC 8700 models only. For Capitel models, some have reported complaints, which BSNL has replaced with Micromax, in some places.

Hence, Micromax is only first choice with BSNL. But you have to search for the branch, where Micromax is available, to effect your purchase.

USB cables will enable you to adjust the data card, towards tower and if needed, near the window, to get more signal and better connectivity. You need not rotate the L'top or Desktop itself.

BTW What's the use of usb cable for evdo?

Hi Guys,

Today, I went to BSNL office, at Flower Bazaar and reached the EVDO section by 11.55AM. Since the AE was in a meeting, only by 2.00PM, I was able to contact the AE, Mr.TKSridharan. After verifying with his card itself, and checking repeatedly in all the three modes, ( I have to explain, the necessity of the ‘HSIA only’ mode ) he is convinced with the issue.

“ Till date, none has complained about this. However you have brought a valid input to me . I will write to the company today itself and do the needful” he assured.

Then, I asked for the drivers for Mac and Linux. He said that he has already mailed to the company ( at the insist of, another customer ) regarding this. He assured as soon as getting the reply, he will inform me, for both the issues. I got his mail ID. Again I will mail to him tomorrow, with some more request / suggestions.

[ I have to thank personally Mr.TKSridharan, for his cool behaviour and reply ( he has to continue the meeting, with some important paper preparations ). Because the other AE , near to him is the person, whom I contacted last week itself, through mobile and not interested, to hear the issue at all. ]

Hey, you said "I asked for the drivers for Mac and Linux". Does this mean the micromax thingy doesn't work on Linux? I bought a EVDO few years back and it was the ZTE one which worked without any drivers.

Ugh, I went to the BSNL office to buy an EVDO and they told me that its no longer possible to rent the device at Rs 200/month, you have to buy the USB modem at Rs2000+

i have bsnl evdo CDMA data card capitel CE200. how to convert cdma to gsm any option is there..???

i want to put aircel 3g gsm sim card is it possible..???

I'm getting very good speed the whole day but my connection is getting disconnected after downloading 976 MB.
Is it a common problem for everyone?
Can anyone help me how to solve this?

Is there any software to disconnect after a certain period of time. coz if I disconnect before 976 MB, Idm will automatically reconnects it..
So I need a software to disconnect after 1 hour or so.

with zte ac8700 the same bug is there...abeit the connection connects on 115 kbps....more poorer than on micromax...guys plz let me know if there r any updates on this issue...
