First, even if your tower is EvDO enabled, the following factors will affect the working

    1. Signal strength

It will vary at different parts of your house. You may get good signal strength if you are close to tower and near to window. But if you stay at some distance from tower, you may have issues. Same is the case if you choose to use net at some place not near to open space.

    2. Mobility

If you are lucky enough to get all the above things right, still you may face issue with mobility. In your tower range, you get good speed, but if you are planning to be mobile, you may not get promised speeds under towers which does not support EvDO.

As for maximum speed, you will get 2 + Mbps under good conditions.

I bought a new Teracom EVDO 3.1 Mbps card from BSNL on Nov 02, 2011 and speed was very crap in daytime (10-12KBps) , worst than 2G (which gives me 15-20 KBps 24hrs a day) in my area (Raipur, CG). Speed at night, after 11pm goes around 30-70 KBps but that too doesnt happen every night.

May be it has to do with area, city etc because my cousin at different city (Bhilai) gets 70-100 KBps throughout the day.

Yesterday, after using it for 25 days, I applied for disconnection.

So don't do the same mistake like I did, first get a speed demo (or borrow friend's EVDO) at your place before rushing to buy it.
