Cool Rate Your Bsnl EVDO Connection!!

Guys please rate your BSNL EVDO connection as per your experience with EVDO.

This will help a lot of people who are planning to buy it.

It would be nice if you can include your speedtest results or any screenshots.

Also comment below if you have anything to say.

This speedtest result showed less speed that I actually get...I get around 220 KBPS download speed.

Will update the speedtest result soon.

ZTE modems are the old ones which were earlier supplied by BSNL.Upload speeds are not that great in EVDO. I get around 30-32 KBPS upload speeds which is enough for me since i donot upload much.
I would recommend going for Prithvi UE100 model as it costs less and I am using the same modem to get those upload speeds.

At present i have no tricks for increasing the upload speeds. If I found one, I will post here.

Pretty good what modem are you using.
It would be good to know the modem model along with the speed when anyone is polling and posting.

Majority of the people know 3G(the term) as in terms of lightning fast internet speed but not the technology. Moreover GSM is dominant over CDMA in India. They are unaware of the fact that 3G is the term used for GSM and its counterpart in CDMA is known as EVDO (as per as the speed is concerned). I think given the present 3G prices BSNL should promote EVDO as CDMA 3G which would then make more and more people go for the EVDO.

on -77dBM m 4 bars of signal i am getting a max download speed of 60-70 KBPS at night, during the day its low and it fluctuates a lot. I am planning to get a antenna to improve the signal strength and then would check the performance of the same.

The signal bars are of least importance as far as what my experience tells me. I get FULL SIGNAL both in Kolkata and at Haldia but the speed drops big time in Haldia. Also there's a lot of disconnection and fluctuation in speed. I think it varies from tower to tower. Maybe the Tower at Haldia is not well maintained and may be there's a speed cap in place there, also im about a KM or two away from the tower. On the other hand in kolkata i have never faced any disconnection issue or speed fluctuations for even a single day. I get disconnected once every 24hours precisely because the lease period of the assigned IP for a particular session is of 24 hours, had it been of 48 hours...it would had then got disconnected at every 48 hours. And lastly in Kolkata im situated withing 100 mtrs of the EVDO tower

It does make a diffference as to what -dBM values you are getting. The higher it is, would help in better connectivity and speed. Of course if you have many users in your area using the same. Then the speed and bandwidth would get impacted and in spite of getting full signals you would still get low speeds.

I bet not many use BSNL EVDO...had it been like that, there would have been a lot more people shouting in this section and moreover the dbm values are predefined in the UE100...if you notice carefully, only about 4 values are shown at random.

for a gr8 many people, using BSNL EVDO is like watching a Nightmare with one's eyes wide open! God! it flickers as if their tower/BTSs are being constantly hit by some Tsunami or a Quake!, or may be, they have placed their satellite in the Saturn's orbit by mistake instead of Earth's, LoL! Everytime it collides with the rubbles, their BTSs get hiccups! i have a few tricks up my sleeves that might interests you!

    a) Get yourself a metal ruler(30cm/6" shud be fine) & place it on top of ur modem or near by it. should minimize the fluctuation.
    b) Get yourself a copper wire(1-2 ft) & coil it around the datacard!
    c) and yes! always use a USB ext. cable of course!
i met with some guys on the net who swore to God these tricks worked like a charm for them! Never worked for me though! Feeling Lucky???

the funny thing about these CB antenna/amplifiers is while they may increase ur signal they can actually decrease ur upload & download speeds, unless its a direct connect amplifier. its less expensive & actually can do a much better job! but again, is it compatible with those EVDO modems available in Indian market? i highly doubt it!

@vspraneeth05 - BSNL Officers don't know the name of EVDO here and doesn't give demo and Tower information is not available in Bihar.

Try using the modem at a higher level like top of the house on the Terrece or in an open area or some other place.
If still u are not able to get any EVDO signal it is most likely that your area is not covered.

Have anyone replies you till date? I didn't checked the whole thread.

Well I just want to add that why are using Bluetooth when you can easily connect your Nokia to PC via data-cable & by using Nokia PC Suite you can achieve the same speed on PC too.
