    Default BSNL EVDO Speed

    Hi,
I bought a EVDO connection last month. The modem i received was ZTE AC8700. i receive full signal strength at my home but the download speed never goes above 1 Mbps (using download managers or otherwise) although the graphical window of the ZTE software shows a Max Rate of 1.8-2 kbps most of the time.

Also i read somewhere the max bandwidth on EVDO has increased from 2.4 Mbps to 3.1 Mbps.

    Is it true??

    May be true.
ZTE AC8700 is a OLDER modem which worls on a REV.0 network.

BSNL recently started giving MICROMAX 300C and Prithvi UE100 modems which work on REV.A network

REV.0 network theoretically supports max DL of 2.4Mbps

REv.A network theoretically supports max DL of 3.1Mbps

Since u brought your connection last mounth u should have got a Prithvi modem

Excuse me! i m afraid, micromax & prithvi modems are actually Rev.A modems wch are capable of reaching speed of upto 3.1 mbps. Rev.B network is unavailable in BSNL at present. Rev.B network is capable of scaling upto speeds of 14.7 mbps, as far as my knowledge goes.

I think the problem is not about the modem, it might be about the network,
so when you buy a Rev. B EV-DO modem but your network provide only 2.4Mbit/s,
    you are wasting money..

RevB network has a capacity of 14 mbps. i think if you are using a Rev b modem with a PROPER Rev.B network you can get DL of 4-5 Mbps

sounds pretty confusing to me! how on earth wud u get the speed of 1mbps when the max. rate its showing is- 1.8-2 kbps? i reckon its the net speed u r talking about! getting 1mbps DL speed is impossible even on Rev.A modem!

    Why??
I get about an average of 1 Mbps to 2.2 Mbps while downloading. Although it never crossed 2.2 Mbps but still its 2.2 MBPS!!!!

Everyone would not get the same speeds, as it would depend on no of users, network congestion and signal strength. In my area in spite of good signal strength i am not getting more than 256kbps in day and 512 kbps at night. So with BSNL EVDO luck and location plays a major factor, along with signal strength and no of users.

I m afraid what u r talking about here is your net speed! i.e. around 1 Mbits-2.2 Mbits! with this kind of "net speed", one should be able to get around 130 Kbps-300 Kbps "Download speed" using DL managers(IDM, DAP, etc.). Thats pretty awesome! never happened with me ever! I envy you!

It does not. But it says connection failed after every 5-6 hrs of continuous usage and disconnects
