Default BSNL evdo data card heating

    Hello All,

I am using BSNL 3g and my data card is UE 100 by Prithvi.
My internet connection gets disconnected after some time and when I check the data card it is hot.

I usually plug the data card on the left side of laptop. When I plug it to right side this problem does not occur.

Is it so that the disconnection happens as the data card gets heated up?
What can be done in this case? Can I start using a cooling pad?

    Regards,
    Vineet

@KamdarVineet - As u have mentioned that you are using 3G with Prithvi UE 100 but as i know this modem supports CDMA and RUIM Sim Card...As u told that your modem tends to heat and the connection disconnects when plugged to Left USB but this problem doesn't occurs while connected to Right USB....As I think u must try to uninstall your Left USB drive and Reinstall Again then your problem might be solved.

bro, u r not using 3G.... tat term applies to GSM network

evdo is advanced cdma... anyway, silly things like data cards r not supposed to b cooled externally.... if u use 21mbps huawei 3G datacards, u would kno wat heating actually is... but it never disconnected

as nkthesoulshaker said, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot & then try afresh... if still prob, then, tho it might sound absurd, yr left usb port is giving out over-voltage... keep using on right port

.... or u can goto bsnl & state yr prob & claim guarantee replacement but then dont tell them tat one port is ok & another acting up

@sadhu_s60 - Thumbs Up for you Dude...Very well explained....great...Yes u write their that don't tell the BSNL Officers about that Modem works in Right Port and don't in Left Port...i am totally satisfied with this..If u tell about this they will start telling that the Modem is good and ur laptop has some problem..so simply go to BSNL Office and tell them to replace it.

    Hello All,

    Thanks for the responses.
This heating problem started coming up from the past 1 months. Previously I was able to use it properly on the left usb port. I will try to uninstall the USB port and install it again. Will post the results. Fingers Crossed.

I tried replacing but it is out of warranty.

If still the problem persists, what could be a better solution:

    1) Buy a new data card (Huawei E303 HiLink, Huawei E303c)?
    2) Use a cooling pad for laptop.
    3) Any other best solution that you can suggest.

    Regards,
    Vineet

    @KamdarVineet -
    1) You cannot use BSNL EVDO in Huawei E303C because Huawei is a GSM based Modem and BSNL EVDO works on CDMA based Modems...You must have to buy a CDMA based Modem...Example - Micromax 310C, etc.
    2) Cooling Pad is helpful for cooling Laptop not Modem...I don't think that this will help you because there is some fault in USB Port or Modem.
    3) Reinstall Windows and If the problem continues to be there than contact BSNL Office.

    LOL. Its not like that.
@sadhu/nkthesoulshaker : Please suggest some good CDMA data cards. I saw the huawei one (Huawei E303c & Huawei E303 Hilink) on flipkart and the reviews mentioned that it works with BSNL EVDO. Please let me know if you guys have some idea about it.

@KamdarVineet - There will be some mistake in the Comments Area of http://www.flipkart.com/huawei-e303c...e-5a08bf4e5df1
Don't go for that comments..On Flipkart you will see that in Specification Tab of Huawei E303C there is written that it works with 2G/3G SIM....If u think that Comments are right then go and buy this modem..And if this didn't worked with your EVDO RUIM then don't make us feel guilty.

Try Micromax 310c. its a good one. But as far as i know the data card that BSNL provide is the best and they offer you full support and willl replace it any thing goes wrong.

I think the reason behind it is, laptop exhaust fans are on the left hand side. And the modem is getting overheated because of the heat coming out from the fan.
